Subject: The Start of Another, Possibly Long and Lazy Day
Where: Hackney, London
Who: Piper
Warnings: None
Open to: All/Anyone in the Area
Status: Complete?

A lazy day. That's how Piper saw the day as he rolled over and looked out the window. Long and lazy. That had both good and bad qualities to it. Piper personally preferred long and active days. Sometimes, though, he liked them, and today he thought he'd like, mostly because he was feeling particularly lazy just then. The arm loosely around his waist may have also had something to do with it, or it could have been that he'd only gotten to sleep a few hours ago, or maybe it was the bed itself. It was, after all, a very nice bed with very lovely sheets and excellent pillows. All right, it was most likely the bed. He felt like he could get lost in it forever and not mind at all. He smiled, rolled onto his stomach, and buried his face in one of the pillows.

He stayed that way for another few minutes before sighing. He really ought to be going. He probably shouldn't have stayed as long as he had, but it wasn't entirely his fault he'd only fallen asleep a few hours ago. He scooted up onto his hands and knees and stretched, arching his back and yawning. He wanted to fall back onto the bed and curl up into a ball and sleep the day away. Instead, he moved to the edge and got up, stretching again as he stood. He quietly shuffled about the room, getting dressed and glancing over at the bed to check if the man in it was stirring yet or not. So far, so good. He just needed his shoes, and he could leave. He had one, but the other took longer to find. Somehow, it found its way under the bed, but at least he had it. He slipped out of the room with barely a sound, put his shoes on by the door, and slipped out into the back alley, stealing a bit of bread from the kitchen on his way.

Piper hummed as he ate the bread, fixing his hair with his free hand. He paused to primp in a shoppe window. He smiled pleasantly to the early morning patrons before moving on, turning in the direction of the theatre. Although he thought he should hurry up, he took his time walking back, letting himself enjoy the city in the morning hours. After all, it was going to be long and lazy day. Why should he rush? Off the top of his head, he couldn't come up with any good reason to hurry along, so he kept himself at his leisurely pace and finished off the bread quick enough. He noted to himself that should that man be a repeat to get more bread. Make it part of the exchange, even. And butter. He could not forget the butter if there was a next time.

Harry was waiting for the young man when he arrived back, eyebrow raised at the young creature. "Stayed out longer than I was expecting you to." He greeted, before noticing the crumbs on the boy's front. "Have you had breakfast, Piper?" He asks, guiding the boy towards the open door of the Theatre. "Or do you have at least a little room to eat with the rest of the boys?" He added, shutting the door behind them both.

"Very enthusiastic he was," Piper replied with, giving Harry a friendly smile in greeting. Although he felt a little sheepish, he kept that at bay by reminding himself that it wasn't entirely his fault and that he'd clearly gotten back before mid-day. He glanced down at himself at the question and brushed the crumbs off his shirt and swiped at his mouth just in case.

"It was just a tiny bit," he said, holding his index and forefinger of one hand up to indicate how little it was. "Not nearly enough to call a right and proper breakfast..." He dropped his hand as he was guided inside. "So I do have room if I must," he added, slowly and a little after the fact.

"Aren't all your clients?" Harry says, ushering the boy down along the corridor towards the backstage of the Theatre, "How much did he give you?" He asked, all business, as his hands slipped into his pockets, fingers brushing over the coins the other boys had handed him this morning. A shilling or so at least. Not too bad, although he knew they were all capable or doing better.

"Greedy." He managed, reaching out and ruffling the boy's hair. "If Nell ain't had it all, then you could have something." He paused, opening the door that lead into the backstage, the corridor here lined with doors that opened onto the boy's dressing rooms, and for the majority, their bedrooms too. At the end of that corridor was the kitchen. "Better run on ahead and make sure he hasn't scoffed the lot."

Piper reached into a pocket and pulled out the payment, handing it over to Harry. "Not greedy, just hungry," he said cheerfully as he walked through the theatre. Thankfully his stomach refrained from showing just how true that was, and he nodded. Hopefully Nell wouldn't have, but if he had, well, he would live. It certainly wasn't the worst thing that could happen to him. And, anyway, he did at least eat something already so he wasn't starving or anything too drastic.

Smoothing his hair, Piper nodded again. "I am. And if he has..." He trailed off, making his way down the corridor. He didn't have a plan if Nell had finished it all off. Maybe he'd drag him out and force him into a puddle or something else equally ridiculous and equally dirty. He smiled, amused at the thought as he hurried off to the kitchen.

"If I have you'll what?" Nell asked, sticking his head out the door to the kitchen, mid-bite through a sausage. He looked Piper up and down, raising an eyebrow but said nothing about his appearance or his lateness. "There's still a little bit saved over. And besides, I should be eating. Got to keep my strength up."

"I was thinking throwing you in a huge mud puddle," Piper replied easily, quirking a brow slightly. "I heard something about it being good for your skin. Not sure if it's true, but we could find out if you want," he said, smiling slowly. "Maybe put it there and there and there." He touched Nell's cheeks and then nose with each 'there' to indicate just where he'd put the mud.

Nell wrinkled his nose, drawing back as if Piper just touching him could somehow cause him to become dirty.

"Harry! Harry, do you hear what he said he'd do to me?" He called, smirking, and he waved his half-eaten sausage at Piper as he gestured.

"I heard. And I think Piper knows better than to cover you in mud." He said, ushering the two boys back into the kitchen, the other boys clearly having already finished, judging by the state of the place. He was going to have to get a maid of some sort.

"Stop teasing each other. Get some food in you, Piper, and get a wash. You smell like bed-sheets."

Piper clucked his tongue at Nell (and a bit at Harry, though mostly at Nell) and said nothing else as he was ushered into the kitchen. He moved around to see what was left. He picked at the left over sausages and cheese, fixing a plate for himself. He grabbed a bit of bread and then sat down, starting in on his plate of food. Eating it made him think about eating at other places, and he started wondering what it would have been like to stay and have breakfast. It would probably have ended with him being shoved out the door with nothing, so leaving when he did was probably better. Besides, Piper hated good-byes of all sorts and avoiding having to go through any kind of good-bye was more than all right in his mind. He nibbled at the cheese as he thought on that and the fact that he smelled of bed-sheets. That just amused him, and he smiled a little to himself, taking a bite of sausage.
