Katherine watched him contemplate her words, and she almost regretted offering such a profound statement. It was true, that she would go to lengths for her brother and herself, but perhaps "anything" was an overstatement. But it was said and she'd not take it back, not repeal her affirmation of devotion. When Eward at last spoke, his first words alone were enough to chill her. The mere mention of the other night at dinner...it made her heart drop into her stomach.
But his request was yet more shocking. That was something I would like to repeat again. Katherine was not sure what Eward was playing at - true attraction or pure mockery - but it did not sit well with her. The cloak became heavier, and beneath it she was sweating, both from heat and anxiety. Quietly, she looked up at him and asked, "So that is the price you set? One kiss?"
