As every day passed by the darkness outside the castle grew and looking around the Great Hall one could never tell what was going to happen next. It was a disconserting feeling for Michelle who had been trying to keep tabs on things. But that was nearly impossible given the lack of information. The Prophet helped... but since her father's death it was only recently that she would actually read the paper again. In general her uncle was able to collect more information as a member of the Order than she would have been able to get from the news publication...
She'd told him that she wanted her father's files. The ones that he'd kept locked away in his study at home. For the life of her she refused to sell the flat and move in with her uncle. She wanted to keep it. And it was times like these that she was glad that she'd stuck to her guns. The files were to arrive today - charmed to look like fliers of some kind... Knowing Liam it would look like Quidditch stat sheets instead.
The newspaper held no good news. Fields found torched near a town known for its large wizarding population... symbols left in the dirt and the sky... She worried (but what else was new?). These had started small... But this time? She couldn't help wonder. They'd left everything charred, but left the scarcrow standing... While the Ministry wasn't seeing this as a threat... she couldn't help but sigh. Ministry shministry. They were incompetent.
In a flutter of wings the owls started to pour in through the windows of the Great Hall... and with them was Garret, Liam's owl. When she was little Michelle couldn't say the owl's name so she called him "errt". She got a few pieces of food ready for the owl as he landed on the table.
"Morning 'Erret." she said with a small. "This for me?" It was as if the owl knew what she was saying. She held her hand out and let him pick at the food sitting there. If an owl could look content, she was sure he did as she ran her hand down his feathers. "Thanks Garret." Liam had sent a big box... It must have taken a lot out of the owl to bring it. "I'll be by the Owlery later to give you some more food. Go and rest up..." And with that the owl took off after getting some water... she wouldn't be drinking from her cup again...
She hestitantly opened the package. Her uncle had wrapped it in brown paper... why? She had no idea. She'd have to aswk him, but inside the package was just what she'd asked for... and then some. He must have been psychic or something... Not only had he sent sweets but also Rosie... How had he found her? The bear that she'd left home accidently over Christmas was sitting on the top of the care package with a locket clasped around her neck... The locket she recognized from the portrait of her grandmother at the manor.
Looking farther into the package she couldn't help but be very pleased. The records and the books she'd asked for were right there, charmed to look like Quidditch volumes and stats... for the first time in a long time, she allowed herself a genuine smile...
