Janice and OTA
[info]yeoman

It had been far too long since Janice lasted visited the Deck Five Lounge. Naturally, the incoming flow of travelers meant more paperwork, more reports needing to be filled out, more documents to go over and sign. Thus, most of her time these past few weeks has consisted of little else but work, eat, sleep, and repeat. It was challenging at first, of course, but she was not one to shy away from that sort of thing. Dare she say it was almost exciting in a way, pulling out all the stops to ensure they stayed on top of every little thing sent from Starfleet Command. Indeed, it is an interesting definition of excitement, yet from the standpoint of this yeoman, she would stand by it.

Not to mention, there were also the travelers themselves to consider. Some had begun to settle in well enough, while others understandably struggled a little. Regardless of which category the travelers found themselves in, their circumstances still weighed on her. Janice did not know what it was like to wake up in a universe or time that was not her own, not in any way the others had, but the longing for something familiar was not foreign to her. So, as soon as she had been able to, she made sure to reach out to them, to answer any questions and assist in whatever they may need to feel a little more comfortable during their stay, however long that may be.

For now, though, she was there with the hope to meet some of them face-to-face and perhaps have a drink or two. After a short while, the latter is precisely where Janice found herself. Retrieving a martini from the barkeeper, she turned to face the crowded room, the details of her dress catching some of the lights as she moved. The yeoman had no intention of standing there for too long, however, as she soon began to make her way towards one of the tables. At least, that had been the plan up until her shoulder collided with another.

"Oh!" she exclaimed instantly, not only at the small impact but feeling her drink spill onto her hand as well. "Oh, dear! I'm so sorry!"

Peggy had just stood up from where she was sitting talking to some of the crew and turned toward the bar when she collided with Yeoman Rand. Her cheeks turned pink as she apologized right back to Janice. It wasn't often that she wasn't paying attention enough to unavoid bumping into someone else. She reached out to steady them both. "I'm so sorry, Yeoman Rand," she was, brushing her hair out of her eyes. "You've even spilled your drink. Here, let me help you with that." She reached behind her for a napkin and handed it to her, taking the long-stemmed glass so that Janice could clean up. "I don't usually end up running head on into people like that," she said.

Brunette hair, red lipstick, and an English accent; the yeoman did not need to look up and see the other woman’s face in its entirety to know she had bumped into none other than Peggy Carter herself. Fortunately, their balance was quickly restored with the traveler's aid, who then proceeded to apologize and generously attempted to remedy the situation further; within an instant her spilt drink was replaced with a dry napkin. Janice expressed her gratitude while chuckling through a small series of “thank you”, but the moment she turned her full attention onto the other woman at last, she saw the blush coloring her features. Combined with her last remark, she could not help but laugh. Peggy was taking full responsibility for something that wasn’t really her fault, and Janice would have none of that.

“No, no!” the yeoman shook her head as she placed a (dry) reassuring hand on the woman’s arm. “I was moving and you were standing; therefore, I bumped into you. I insist on being the one to apologize—I’m sorry—and that you call me Janice.” A warm, amused smile flashed across her own features as she began dabbing her other hand with the napkin. “How much did I spill – can you tell?"

"Janice," Peggy repeated with a nod. "I was moving actually, but -" She waved her hand a bit. "It doesn't matter. Let's just clean up and get you another drink. It looks like you've spilled about half ... it didn't get on your dress at all, did it?" Peggy hadn't really dressed up for the evening herself, choosing instead some wide-legged trousers and a crisp blouse. But she was glad that the yeoman's drink hadn't splashed on her nonetheless.
