Deck Five Lounge

Welcome to the Deck 5 Lounge

As social gatherings went, this was far from Marian's first rodeo. She'd been to and ruined may perfectly good parties, though ruining them was hardly ever her intent. It was simply part and parcel of being Hawke, apparently.

But here aboard the ship Trouble didn't seem to be hounding her heels nearly as often. Which gave her hope, as she found a chair and sipped some Tequila, that she'd finally get through one of these things without it ending in bloodshed, blood mages, or anything else crazy. Hopefully some people would approach her and she could get on with making a few friends. Otherwise, it was a perfect night for people watching.

Thanks to the database, Kate recognized her when she walked into the lounge. Marian, the woman who had also known a writer and had quite the tumultuous relationship with her husband. Stepping through the crowd, Kate first made her way to the bar and ordered her own drink, going for something simple and not as likely to give her a hangover the next day. Tequila was the sort of drink that she'd choose on a night where she wanted to get hammered, and while she had given into that temptation early on in her arrival on the Enterprise, Kate was doing her best to steer clear.

No matter where or when she was, the shadow of her father's slow fall into alcoholism and the years and extremes it took to pull himself out of that addiction was always there, reminding her of how easy it would be to fall into the same pattern.

With her scotch, poured neat, in hand, she crossed the room again, picking the seat opposite Marian and raising her glass in a toast, giving the other woman a smile. Now that she was closer, she could see the tequila in her glass. Another reminder of their earlier conversation. "We haven't formally met, but I'm Kate. Kate Beckett."

There probably was a disease much like alcoholism in Thedas, and one had to look no further than Marian's Uncle to see where too much indulgence in drink and gambling could lead.

But she was still gunning that Tequila as if it were made from the lowly hop and served in gigantic mugs instead of small glasses. Marian flashed a grin at Kate as she took the seat, and then waved a hand. "Hello! Wonderful to finally meet in person, isn't it? Look, I've even got some Tequila in my hand. Do you prefer Kate, or Beckett? Please feel free to call me Hawke."

Kate watched her drink the tequila with a bit of amusement. She wasn't really concerned about Marian's pace because she knew that there were other people on the ship who weren't bothered by the effects of alcohol. For all she knew, this woman could be another one of those.

But if she wasn't, Kate was already sorry for how she might feel in the morning.

"It is," she agreed, raising her own glass to her lips for a brief sip as she considered the question Marian - now Hawke, she told herself - had asked. She answered to both and some of her closest friends almost exclusively called her Beckett. And then there was her mother-in-law who almost always called her Katherine and her dad still used her childhood nickname Katie. But did she really have a preference? "It doesn't matter to me," she said truthfully, "Back home people called me both. Even my husband referred to me as Beckett as much as he would use Kate. You can choose which you want to use."

Marian toasted Kate with her drink and took a sip before setting it down and nodding her head. It really did seem like there was no preference either way, especially if her own husband used them interchangeably.

Which amused her. She chuckled, "You know, I don't think Fenris ever once called me Marian. Not even during more intimate times. Wherein he preferred to remain silent rather than be vulnerable for longer than three minutes."

Then she added, "I'll probably end up calling you Beckett. We can be the 'surname' twins."

Kate had to grin at that, tapping her fingers against the edge of her glass as Hawke spoke. With Castle, it was more of the same, he used her first name about as much as her last name, no matter what they were doing. "There was a time early in our partnership where Castle never called me anything but Beckett. I still remember the first time he used my given name."

It'd hadn't been a good moment for her. She'd been in trouble with her precinct captain and benched from the most important case of her police career - working on finding a contract killer who was also suspected of killing her mother. He'd used it to get her attention, to stop her from leaving and to try and encourage her to talk to him.

None of it had worked. She had still left. Stormed through the precinct and back to her apartment to lick her wounds and nurse her pride, but she remembered the sound of her first name passing through his lips for the first time.

"For a long time, I was only Kate if something serious was happening. Life or death situations, heavy emotional moments; that sort of thing. But when we got together he used it more and more. At home, I was mostly Kate after we got married, unless he was mad at me and then he'd revert back to Beckett." And at that memory, she grinned. A bright and full smile that showed two even rows of white teeth and put a sparkle of joy into her eyes. "But I mostly called him Castle, mostly as a habit thanks to work. I'd use Rick if I needed to get his attention or if I were talking to someone that might think it odd that I called him by his last name."

Shrugging her shoulders, Kate took another sip of her drink. "I am fine with that. Beckett and Hawke. We sound like we should be fighting crime. Or maybe lawyers."

Despite her unease at meeting with and conversing with a Sith the week before at the gathering in the deck five lounge, Leia still decided to make her way over there this time as well. She ordered the same thing she had last time, three fingers of whiskey, and sat on one of the lounge chairs with a direct view of the stars blurring past all over again. How incredible would it be if she happened to spot a familiar star, a planet she knew.

Leia sipped the whiskey and sighed. She glanced around, a wary and not unfriendly smile on her face, to see if anyone might want to join her.

Peter had decided to poke his head out of the labs and actually mingle a bit, he was already ridiculously excited about being here and he needed to tone it down a bit, so he figured a couple drinks would help relax him just a bit.

That was short lived though, as after ordering his drink and looking around he spotted none other than Princess Leia. In his world there were two versions of the woman, whether it be from the books or the films, but he was guessing films based on the face she carried. It was a bit meta and super surreal, but he was getting used to that and he loved it.

Making his way towards her, noting the position she was in which seemed inviting enough, and as he neared her table he bowed his head a bit towards her, "Princess Leia Organa? I'm... I'm Peter Parker. I must say it's an honor to meet you."

Leia turned when she heard someone approach and then her eyebrow arched when he knew her name. A smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth. "The title is unnecessary these days," she said with a shrug. "Just Leia is fine. Or General if you're not comfortable with that." She couldn't tell by his expression, which seemed to be one of adoration, whether he'd want to be on a first name basis with her or not. And Senator wasn't right anymore either.

"Leia's fine if that's fine with you," Peter offered while keeping his brow up. There was definitely adoration there, for several different reasons, some of which were fan based, some were simply understanding of someone who was once a character, but now real. He held his drink but didn't sip it instead just watched her a moment.

"I just wanted to say hello. You're someone I've come to admire as a leader and so much more, and so being here, seeing you, having never thought I would in my life, I at the very least had to say hello."

"Leia's fine," she said with a nod. Leia couldn't help but slide her gaze over to where she noticed Luke walk in and begin talking to Rey. She had noticed Rey enter the moment she had, and Leia had tried to keep her focus away but it was impossible.

She turned and smiled at Peter. "Hello, Mister ... " She waited for him to introduce himself and tipped her head to the side when he continued on. "And I appreciate that," she said, "really."

The drink of choice this week was a cosmopolitan, thanks to a recommendation by Tony. Mary found it quite good. Drink selections had really expanded since her time and it seemed that there were so many more now that were fruity and possibly geared towards women. Not that Mary had ever had a problem drinking her whiskey straight.

She stood at the window and looked out at the stars and how infinite space around them was. Mary glanced at the woman next to her. "It makes you feel quite small, doesn't it?"

Leia watched the young woman with a pink drink in hand and the took in the dress she had on. She stood up to join her. "Being in space, you mean?" Leia asked, clearing her throat. After Mr. Parker had walked away, Leia was thankful for the distraction of another companion. It kept her from trying not to reach out to Luke and Rey and see how that conversation was going.

"Yes," Mary said with a nod. The woman was older, but carried herself with dignity. It reminded her of her mother or Isobel. "I have stood on the bow of a boat and felt incredibly small as I looked out at the ocean, but it is nothing compared to this. I feel insignificant standing here." She gestured to the window with her free hand. At least the nebulae were beautiful with their colors of deep red and blue.

The comment brought to mind the shore about an hour away from her childhood home on Alderaan, and her chest tightened. It was funny, even all these years later, how such off-hand comments could bring up those memories like this. Leia nodded. "It's a different feeling, being in space versus being on the water. And yet there are similarities." She followed the other woman's gaze and nodded.

Rey was still fascinated by the Enterprise and suspected that she would continue to be for a good while. She'd put in for training in engineering out of a deep desire to learn the inner working of the ship, as well as how other kinds of crafts worked in this place.

A lot of the beverages had strange names, so she decided to start out with a fairly simple sounding beer variety. It wasn't bad, thankfully, so she took her drink and took a seat where she could watch the stars rushing past.

Luke had not been particularly social since he joined the ship, and after so much self-inflicted exile, it was much easier to stay in his quarters and not subject himself to idle chatter. But he needed to let it go. He had to get out, but forcing himself to do so was no small feat.

As he approached the Deck 5 lounge, he was felt a strong presence in the Force, something he wasn't used to since he really only felt people from his galaxy. As he turned the corner and walked in, he saw Leia, which helped explain much of a what he felt, but not all of it. And then he saw her, seated with a view of the stars. Rey. She had to be.

He gave Leia a passing glance, but remembered their conversation. He'd promised to learn Rey's identity and he wasn't going to back down from that promise. He ordered his own drink—a blend more fruit than alcohol—and took the seat next to her. "I take it you're Rey?"

Rey looked at the older man who took the seat next to her. If he knew her name, that most likely meant..."Luke Skywalker?" She couldn't fight the grin that spread across her face. "General Organa told me you were here."

She was in the presence of a legend. A legend who could possibly help her gain greater understanding of the Force and why she happened to be connected to it. "I have your lighstaber--your first one."

"Maz Kanata had it. On Takodana. Han brought us--my friend Finn, BB-8, and me--to get help in getting BB-8 back to the resistance with the piece of the map to you BB-8 had." Rey paused and took a swig of her beer before continuing.

"I don't know how Maz came to have it. It was in an old chest with a few other things that I...didn't really notice very much." She was quiet for a moment. "It called to me. And when I touched it, I saw things--visions. Mostly of the past, but one was of the future, which did end up happening. It was really very confusing, because nothing like that had happened before."

Mako and Dax

Mako realized that Dax and her set up their "date" on the night of the lounge party. She sat at a booth with a glass of water (no fizzy drinks for her) and looked around. She hoped no one else would sit down (it would be nice to meet someone else, but she was looking for Dax!)

Mako saw the other woman and she smiled and waved. "It is me, Mako! Over here!" She had a Japanese accent but perfect English. She also knew Chinese and a little Russian, but that was besides the point. Those languages she learned in the Shatterdomes over the years, with the Wei brothers and Kaidonovsky‎s.

Jadzia always looked forward to conversing with new people, so she was happy to get off-shift and make her way to the lounge. She waved at Mako, and approached, then smoothed the blue sciences skirt out as she took a seat. "It's nice to meet you, Mako."

In her time with the O'Briens she'd learned a little bit of Japanese with Keiko, but she was a lot better with Klingon.
