Welcome to the Holodeck!

Each Saturday, join the Enterprise crew and your fellow travelers to meet new arrivals, catch up with those you haven't seen in a few days, or try a new drink. This week, the traveler liaison program, along with the help of the Deck 5 Lounge staff, have decided to theme the evening on the holodeck. Welcome to a forest getaway. It's late afternoon into evening, an outdoor bar is set up alongside a campfire, picnic tables, and a lake with canoes. Enjoy stargazing as the sun goes down.

"I might look into seeing if we can take it apart in a hologram if that's even possible, but judging by this," she said waving her hand around them. "I would imagine that it would be possible."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Commander," it was, there was something comfortable about meeting someone who was also in the military, despite all of the different branches and some of the rivalries, it was always good to see someone who understood what the military truly took. "SEAL?" She asked after a second. He had that feeling to him.

"Call me Sam," she let a small breath trying to think how to answer that. "Yes, and no, you get used to it, it is the nicest spaceship I've been on, seems more like a cruise ship half the time."

"Just Steve," the man said, as he pulled his hand back with a smile. The smile grew wider when she was able to pinpoint exactly what kind of Navy he was as well. "I don't know what gave it away, but you're right. I used to work with a terrorism prevention unit primarily before my current job."

Raising his eyebrows, he asked, "You've been on other spaceships?" Steve definitely wasn't able to claim the same. While he's had his fair share of adventures, this was his first time in space. It was his personal final frontier. "Okay, you have to give me more than that."

"The way you hold yourself, I'd have guessed another Speical Forces if you hadn't said Navy. " Smirking she continued. "I grew up around the Air Force and being in it. You get an ability to guess where a person is."

Sometimes Sam struggled with the concept that she could talk about her job here openly. "It's strange you know, not needing to say it's classified, who would have thought being on the Enterprise would declassify things," besides in space and on other worlds talking about the program was acceptable.

"I'm part of a program based out of Colorado Springs at Cheyanne Mountain called the Stargate Program," she paused to gauge how insane it might all sound. "We travel through something called a Stargate which creates a wormhole allowing us to travel between Earth and other planets that also happen to have a Stargate, through that we've explored worlds and been exposed to more advanced races with spacecrafts, leading us to create some of our own with the technology we've gained.."

Shaking a finger at her with his free hand, he laughed. "Yeah, you're good. I come from a line of Navy men myself." Smile fading and tinged with a bit of sorrow, he added, "My grandfather went down on the USS Arizona." He didn't know if her world had the same events as his did, but there was a good possibility that Pearl Harbor had happened in her world if they had similar military.

But thoughts of past events were wiped from his mind when she told him exactly what she did back home. She had been living out his dream, basically. Yeah, he did important work with Navy Intelligence and 5-0, but space travel and future technology? That's the dream. So far being on the ship they were currently traveling on was like a vacation. Not much of note had happened yet, not a lot he could do, but what she did? He wanted in. Unfortunately, that's not how life worked.

"I'm going to be honest, my inner teenager wishes he were you right now. How long did you do that before you got brought here?"

Sam's smile had a touch of sadness to it as he told her about his Grandfather, she nodded her understanding knowing there were never the right words for those situations and they'd all lost someone in a horrific battle.

Laughing at his excitement, she nodded. "Well, I'm basically living out my childhood fantasy, although when I was a kid it was just to become an astronaut, I think the Stargate program is a step up from it." She really did, nothing against astronauts, she respected them and had wanted to be one, that was until she knew about other options. "Just over a decade going through the gate," she laughed shaking her head. "Makes me feel old thinking it's really been that long, I was involved before I got the chance to go through the gate though."

"If it helps you any, you don't look a day over 30." She was gorgeous, there was no denying that. But he knew exactly what feeling she was talking about. "But I get it. You do something long enough, it's hard to remember life before it."

Having been taking swigs of his beer between speaking and listening, he realized he was holding an empty the next time he raised the bottle to his lips. Holding it at the neck, he gestured toward the bar and fire that was a little ways off from there. "I'd love to sit down and exchange stories with you if you're interested in grabbing another drink with me right now."

Laughing, Sam raised an eyebrow but nodded her thanks. "What was that? Always be wary of charming navy men?" Sam couldn't help herself in teasing fellow members of the armed forces sometimes, but it was all in good fun. "It is sometimes strange to remember what life was like before."

"Yeah, I'd be happy to swap some stories, SEALs usually have some good stories to tell," she looked at her own drink was that nearly finished. "Lead the way." She offered.
