Peggy & OTA [multiples welcome]

It had been a long week for the traveler liaison offices, with several travelers disappearing over the last few days. It sometimes happened like that, in bursts where they lost many at the same time. It didn't make it any easier, either for those who lost friends or family or for Peggy and her team, when it came to processing and taking care of the needs of those who remained. So while she didn't always make it to the lounge, she absolutely made an exception that evening.

She chose to sit at the bar in the middle of the room, where she could see everything going on and who was there and who was coming in. She crossed her legs and held her wine glass carefully in her hand.

"Well hello there," Lucifer said, having noticed Peggy's entrance, but he'd waited to greet her. Now he leaned across the bar, smiling at the impossibly deflective woman who he'd only somewhat gotten to know despite months on the ship.

"Must have been a long day," he mused, glancing at Peggy and nodding at her glass. "Are you sure that's strong enough?"

"Try a long week," Peggy said, arching an eyebrow over at Lucifer. She glanced down at her wine and then back up at home. "What else do you suggest then?" she asked, sliding the glass onto the bar top and giving him a challenging look. He knew very well that she wasn't interested in being drunk, but she could appreciate a stronger drink now and again, in moderation, of course.

Lucifer knew better than to give Peggy anything too strong, and he respected her enough to not challenge her on that. But he did reach for a new glass and came up with a mixed drink, saying, "This won't knock you out, and it's probably nothing that you've tried before. But it's stronger than wine." He grinned, and pushed the glass toward her. "The alcohol is foreign to earth..."

That hadn't stopped him when it came to trying every single drink available in the lounge.

"Most everything around here is foreign to earth," she said dryly, as she picked up the glass, gave the alcohol in it a sniff - bitter but not overly so, she was more concerned about its color, which was an odd orange - and then inclined her head at him before taking a sip.

"Have you gone through everything available to us here yet?"

"Fair enough point, Ms. Carter," Lucifer said with a smirk. He poured a glass of whiskey for himself and nodded. "Everything here, and then some. Most of what I prefer can't be stocked at the lounge, and I've gone through all but one emergency bottle."

He wasn't sure what he'd consider dire enough to break into his remaining bottle of Romulan Ale, if recent events hadn't driven him to it. Of course, there was the small matter of remembering where he'd stashed it.

"You'll probably do well to hold onto that last emergency bottle then," she pointed out to him. "Just in case. Though I'm not sure I can imagine what it would be that drive you to need to drink it."

"Same thing that's made your week long," Lucifer pointed out. "Unexpected departures. Since no one can predict who's coming and going, can you imagine if you disappeared?"

She didn't admit to him that she'd thought about it, mostly on a daily basis. Instead, she shrugged. "I've been here longer than anyone else," she told him. "I have a feeling I'm here to stay."

Peggy & Mary
[info]ladycontrary
2017-09-02 08:41 pm UTC (link)
Mary concurred that it had been a long week. It was always tough when people left en masse. She was still reeling from losing Tony a week ago. It was odd - in the wake of losing one Stark, she'd found comfort in the other. Howard, whom she was most assuredly 'dating' at this point, as well as doing a great deal more with, had a way of soothing her that always made her feel better. So, despite being sad about Tony, embarking on something new with Howard had made her incredibly happy, probably happier than she had been in a long time on the ship. For the first time in months she didn't wake up wishing that she was back at Downton.

She slid into the booth across from Peggy with a glass of wine of her own in her hand, sighing at the look on Peggy's face. "This week's been rather dreadful, hasn't it?"

Peggy's head was swimming a little bit from the stronger drink that Lucifer had offered to her and she had accepted. She smiled at Mary, glad to see the other woman whom she had gotten to know as a friend over the last several months. And to know that she and Howard had begun spending time together pleased Peggy as well.

"It's been difficult, yes, and very busy. How are you handling things?" she asked.

"It's been rather exhausting. I've never been terribly good at comforting." That was one of the hardest parts of her job. It wasn't that Mary had no empathy for others, but sometimes the job required so much that it was exhausting to her. She wasn't naturally a comforting person.

"As for myself," she continued, "it was hard having Tony leave, but it happened at the same time that Howard and I happened to get together." Here she smiled. "So in that sense I've been very happy."

Mary wasn't going around telling everyone about she and Howard, but she figured that Peggy of all people could know about them.

Peggy was hardly the type to be good at comforting either. Much better at being the strong one and avoiding difficult subjects altogether, moreso than offering comfort. "I'm sure there are enough people here who can provide comfort as needed that those of us who aren't any good at it can let them handle it." She hoped that at least some of her liaisons managed it better than she did.

She smiled and lifted her drink to her lips, sipping it light. She didn't say again to be careful about Howard; she didn't need to. Instead, she nodded. "I'm glad you can be there for him."

Maybe it was the Brit in them. Having a stiff upper lip and carrying on despite tragedy just seemed to be in their cultural DNA.

"Does he need someone there for him?" Mary asked. "Oddly enough, he's been quite supportive of me. And our date was lovely. He made a dance hall simulation that was so perfect, right down to the last detail."

She was aware that she was gushing, but she kind of wanted to and Peggy was one of the few people on board that she felt comfortable doing it to.

Peggy didn't mind the gushing, though perhaps she would be better at enjoying it or asking questions if it wasn't Howard that Mary was gushing about. "He told me about the dance hall program," she said. "I'm glad to heard that you enjoyed it."

Perhaps Mary wouldn't gush about what had happened later that night then. Suffice it to say that she'd woken up very satisfied the next day.

"It was incredible. I'm sure that anyone from your time would enjoy it. We all ought to go dancing one night." Mary smiled again as she thought back to that night, then got herself together. "How have you been though, Peggy?"

Peggy tapped her chin lightly. "You know, I have been thinking about that," she told Mary. "About perhaps utilizing the holodeck in a similar way to how we're using the lounge. Give everyone a little more variety, as it were."

She shrugged. "Keeping busy," she said. "It's what I do best, after all."

Peggy & Indy

Indy wandered into the lounge later that evening, having the need to be social, but not wanting to find too big of a crowd. He was grateful to see the crowd was small, and the music had calmed to jazzy piano, which was his preference.

Keen to try Klingon Blood Wine—whatever the hell that was—given Lucifer's description of it, he ordered it with some bread and took a look around the room. He lifted his hat a bit and spotted Peggy. He slid in beside her, placing the garlic bread between them. "You look like you've been in here a while tonight."

Yes, Peggy had remained in the lounge longer than she usually did, having enjoyed the company of Lucifer and Mary before nursing her third drink on her own. She turned, smiling, when Doctor Jones joined her. "I have, in fact," she said, shifting a little to straighten her shoulders and regard him curiously. "It's quieted down a little from how it was earlier in the evening."

"I like it like this," he admitted, smiling at her. "Feels like a jazzy nightclub, something closer to what I'm used to. I like the familiarity."

He took a sip of his blood wine and twisted a face, shaking his head. "Except—that is clearly not an Earthly drink. Packs a real punch." So he took another sip before turning back to Peggy and breaking a piece of bread in half. "So what's left you here so late tonight?"

Peggy's smile grew. "Yes, it's more like what I was used to as well, though I've been here long enough that I'm not sure how much I'm missing the life I left behind anymore. It's become a necessity to get used to this and figure out how to live this life now." She couldn't help but laugh at the look on his face when he drank the blood wine. "I haven't tried that one before, but it's mostly the name that's turned me off."

She considered the question for a moment. "It's been a long week," she admitted. "And I thought sitting here with a drink would be better than retreating to my quarters alone."

Indy had to admit, he couldn't imagine being totally comfortable being on this ship, but on the other hand, he had nothing pressing at home. Someone would manage his class, he'd survived yet another adventure, and he had finally started to patch his relationship with his dad. While certainly a life he enjoyed leading, it wasn't like things would fall apart without him.

Hell, the chances of anyone noticing he was gone right away were pretty small, considering how much he was gone.

"Being by yourself can be great or can just make it worse. So I suspect you gauged your mood right." He grinned at her, unpurposefully his crooked grin, and offered the bread basket to her.

Peggy thanked him and took a piece of bread to nibble on it. After consuming two and a half drinks, she thought it was a good idea to eat something, and she appreciated that he was the one suggesting it to her. "I'm sure it's a big adjustment for you," she said, "considering I believe you hail from a similar time period as I do, and I know it was a big adjustment for me as well. Is there anything I can do to help?"

"I'm finally starting to get the hand of this place. The technology is beyond what I can fathom, but people themselves haven't changed much. I'm getting a good feel for this place. It's nice to have a few others from similar times, including my roommate." Indy paused for another sip of the bloodwine. He got it down without making a face this time. "Howard thought perhaps you had something to do with that, getting us paired up in the same quarters."

Peggy couldn't actually take credit for putting Dr. Jones and Howard in the same room together, but it certainly made sense. "I don't do rooming assignments," she said as she sipped her own drink. "But it was fortuitous of the two of you to be paired together, yes."
