WHO: Diana and open
WHEN: 226407.14 0600 hours
WHERE: Swimming Pool
SUMMARY: IDK yet?
WARNINGS: TBD

Diana hadn't wanted to go to the gym, and Lt. Dax was still working on a personalized combat training program in the holodeck for her, so she'd come down to T-deck. There was no one else in the pool, which was fine by her.

Disrobing, she folded her robe and set it aside, before walking to the edge of the pool and diving in. With a single powerful kick she'd crossed half the length in the space of a heartbeat, and she surfaced at the other end another heartbeat later. The water in her wake looked like a storm had passed, and she thought that maybe she was over doing it.

Her next few laps were Olympic quick and just as graceful, but much less.

It was amazing, the accommodations on this ship. At times it seemed like a luxury cruise liner, but Diana thought it made sense. She'd studied the publicly available aspects of the design, and the ship's mission. Months, even years between ports of call would drive even the most dedicated person crazy. The more ways to distract the crew, the better.

"I may have to do it more often. If you were not on duty I'd invite you in."

"It does look nice," she said, approaching the edge of the pool and kneeling down to stick her fingertips in the water. As Kate expected, it was the perfect temperature. "It's strange that I don't really use pools anymore. I didn't swim in anything but them for most of my childhood." Though maybe that was the precise reason why she tended to favor open water for swimming and such.

Wiping her wet fingers on the edge of her uniform, Kate folded her legs underneath her as she sat down, intending to stay just for a few minutes to talk to Diana. "I guess you are settling in well?"

"As well as can be managed." Diana hauled herself out of the water, a strange mixture of power and grace as she did so. She sat next to Kate, leaving some space so as not to get the poor woman wet.

"I'm feeling anxious. Like I want to do something but can't. Perhaps the novelty is starting to wear off."

The nod Kate gave in response was one of a woman who knew exactly what she meant. It wasn't easy to adjust to living in space or on a spaceship, and that seemed to prove true even for people from worlds that were used to such a thing.

But she also understood the anxiousness Diana spoke of because she too felt that way. "I understand completely," she said, "I'm used to doing far more than I do here and it's a bit like an itch you can't scratch in knowing that you are going to be limited here."

"I want to help people." Diana slowly swung her legs in the water. "I always have. Even when I retreated from the world at large, I'd still help if I saw a need for it."

She laughed. "Orphanages, that sort of cliche thing."

"So did I," Kate replied, frowning slightly at herself and the past tense she had unwittingly spoken with. "Well, so do I," she amended with a half shrug. "I was a cop before I ended up here and started doing this."

Grinning slightly, she glanced over at Diana. "I wouldn't say helping orphans is cliche, seems very worthwhile to me."

"Security is the closest thing to police that you can do on board this ship. From my observations of my short time on Earth, crime is very low." Still present, it was impossible to stamp out, but much of the poverty and hunger that had plagued the 20th century was gone.

"In my day job, I amassed a lot of money. Anonymous donations helped me deal with it."

Kate had to nod her agreement to that because she too had come to the same conclusion in their time on Earth. Of course, that didn't mean that crime was nonexistent because people were always going to want more or let anger, jealousy, and passion get the better of them. "I worked homicide," she said, tapping her fingers along the edge of the pool. "And I'm afraid it's still around, though I hope not to the extent that it was in my time."

"What did you do for a day job?" She knew what the Diana Prince of television and comic books had done, but that didn't mean it was what this Diana had chosen to do with her life. "Though as long as you've been alive, you've surely had more than one career."

"Men will always find reasons to kill one another, though I wish there weren't so." Diana frowned, her eyes drifting to the water. Though the scale of such death varied, and she'd killed her own share, it still bothered her.

"Antiques. I worked at the Louvre, most recently. Before that, I worked elsewhere. Where I came from, I'm an expert in the ancient world, particularly Greece. It was a natural choice."

"You and me both," Kate said with a sigh, her mind automatically going to her mother and how senseless her death was. Sometimes killing was necessary, Kate had taken lives herself when given no other choice, but that didn't make it any easier.

"Of course," she replied, giving Diana a smile, "I've been to the Louvre many times. It's a wonderful place, as is Paris."

She couldn't explain why she'd gravitated to Paris. She'd been in several cities over the decades, but she'd kept coming back to Paris. It might have been the nostalgia. And seeing it free of war had been welcome.

"50s, 80s, and then the 00s, I've seen Paris. Beautiful each time. Much more so than London." First impressions had never really been fully shaken, though she'd come to love the people there.

For the most part, Kate thought London got a bad wrap. A lot of the distaste for the city in people that she met came down to the rather uncooperative weather, and the food. And when you compared those two things to Paris, there really wasn't much of a contest. Kate could even admit that she preferred France to England.

"London isn't so bad," she said, "But it doesn't really compare to Paris. I'm also rather fond of Kiev, at least before the Ukraine Revolution. I haven't been back in years, but I know a lot of the city was damaged by fighting and riots. But when I studied there, it wasn't like that."

"It's just not that aesthetically pleasing, but then my first view of it came after leaving a literal paradise on Earth. I suppose the comparison is unfair."

She'd spent a few years in the Eastern Bloc, trying to acquire old relics and reluctantly getting involved in helping people. "Kiev was gorgeous, at least when I was passing through.

"No, it certainly was beautiful." Kate agreed, though her mind was picturing both the sites she had seen during her study abroad trip meshed up against the photos that had been displayed on television so many years later of war and ruin. "If we go back to Earth, maybe I can take a trip and see if it's been repaired and gotten some of that back."

And, really, that was one of the best parts of the situation. Things that might have had a terrible memory associated with it could now be rewritten. At least in a manner of speaking. In the future, there were infinite possibilities.

"But, you know, nothing tops New York City," she added with a grin, all too aware that her opinion on that was influenced by New York being her hometown. "Of course, as a New Yorker, I'm terribly biased, but it says something of a place when you miss it every single day."

"I would not mind seeing it myself. There wasn't much time for me to see Earth, as I arrived so late on the shore leave." She wanted to see Greece. See if Themyscira existed. Assuming it wasn't still hidden.

Her eyes twinkled. "New York is beautiful too, in its own way."
