It wasn't exactly as though B'Elanna had been avoiding Tom (but she had); it was more that she was ensuring that she wasn't in the same place as he was at the same time as he was. Rather, she did her duty shifts in engineering, ate her meals with some of her fellow crewmembers, returned to her quarters, rinse, repeat. Of course it was inevitable that she would run into him at some point, which was exactly what happened when B'Elanna had just sat down with her dessert when she looked up towards the door and spotted Tom saunter in.

She thought maybe she was overthinking things. After all, he, she was sure, was from before she was. So recent events between them - hell, even their "blood fever" time together - hadn't happened for him yet. Let alone whatever it was that Captain Janeway let slip what happened in their future. That was something she definitely didn't want to think about. But she managed a smile and a wave because she wasn't about to be rude about this whole thing. "Tom," she called out, gesturing to the open seat across from her.
