Entry tags:! enterprise, - deck five lounge, ^ log, chloe decker | lucifer, lucifer morningstar | lucifer

WHO: Lucifer Morningstar and Chloe Decker
WHEN: 226406.26 afternoon
WHERE: The Deck Five Lounge
SUMMARY: Lucifer attempts to convince Chloe, once and for all, that he is the devil.
WARNINGS: I mean, he is the devil.

Lucifer had never denied who he was, he had never hid that from the detective. But what Chloe Decker allowed herself to believe was a different story. Lucifer had listened to her explain away different things she couldn't provide rational explanations before more than once, and he knew she had to have some lingering questions, still.

He had planned on telling her soon after her arrival, but maybe not this soon. However she was bound to run into more people who were aware of who he was. Enough people had seen his wings, or watched him not react to attacks or punches, or like Mary had seen his eyes glow red while in anger.

And that wasn't even the full extent of it, nor was he quite ready to show Chloe his true form. The eyes and wings would have to do for now.

So he waited, watching his PADD to make sure she didn't comment to say she'd changed her mind, and tried to pretend the idea of showing her who he really was didn't make him nervous.

Lucifer had claimed to be the devil since the very first time they'd ever met. It was, of course, ridiculous and at first she'd assumed that it was just something he did for his club; a persona to make it all a little more dangerous and exciting for the club goers. As she'd gotten to know him better, he'd continued to claim it, and she'd just started ignoring it, considering it one of her friend's many eccentricities. Now, apparently, he was going to prove it to her.

Maybe it would put the subject to rest once and for all. She'd like that. It was getting to be a little tedious, really. She wasn't really a religious person, but she had her own ideas of what the devil would be like if he existed. Cruel, heartless, mean, uncaring...none of which fit the Lucifer she knew. Most of all, she hoped that this wouldn't hurt him too much. Whatever he was going to do, she hoped it wouldn't hurt him when she failed to suddenly start believing his story. She'd have to handle this delicately.

Of course, there had been things she couldn't explain when she'd been around him. She'd seen him throw a guy through a window with more force than should have been possible. She'd seen him shot and walk away. And then there was that whole thing he had with people telling him their deepest desires...even though she herself had never been tempted to. But there were certainly explanations for these things. She just hadn't found them yet.

She arrived at the lounge, stepping inside. Lounges were quiet and a little creepy when they were empty, and she scanned the room for him.

"Hey. So...I'm here."

"Right, hello Detective!" Lucifer said with his usual cheeriness, even though this particular greeting was a mixture of nerves and dread and also the possibility that he could finally really be himself around her.

Walking out from behind the bar, he said, "So I've been thinking about how to do this because I don't want to have another debate with you about whether or not I'm actually the devil. Because I am. So let's just get this over with, shall we? And then we can go about our lives and you can know for certain that I've never actually lied to you, including about this."

Chloe managed not to roll her eyes, and instead nodded seriously at him, crossing her arms over her chest. She'd watch whatever he had to show her, and she'd try to do it with an open mind, but she couldn't promise that she'd do it with an open mind. She didn't believe he was the devil, and it would take a lot to convince her that he was.

"Alright," she said. "Let's get it over with. Show me what you have to show me."

Lucifer nodded, and gestured toward the windows that gave endless views of space. "How about you start off watching my reflection and then turn and face me when you're ready?" he asked.

He wasn't sure if she did so reluctantly or not, but she complied, and he could see her reflection in the glass and almost smirked at that impatient look on her face. He was too nervous for that, however, and he added, "And remember, no matter what you see, Detective, you know who I am. Not just who my father forced me to be."

But then his own face became the focal point as he let his eyes glow red, staring out into space waiting to see Chloe turn and look at him, to see if the red light reflected was an illusion or real, as he knew she would.

She did what he said, turning around and trying but failing to hide the look of impatience. But she went along with it anyway, because he was her friend and for some reason he felt the need to do this. She wasn't sure what he expected her to see in the reflection. Some trick, maybe?

The red eyes abruptly stopped her thoughts and she turned around, sure that it had to be a trick of the glass.

It wasn't.

She looked up at his eyes without saying a word, staring at them unblinkingly until her whole body started trembling. She didn't start screaming, as some of the guiltiest had, but the blood drained from her face and she suddenly felt cold all over.

"It isn't...it can't..."

Well that was enough of that, Lucifer decided pretty quickly, letting his eyes return to normal. He was fairly certain that she no longer doubted who he was, but in an attempt to lighten the quickly darkening mood he added, "It gets better? I mean, Dr. Linda saw my entire face without even the benefit of seeing my wings."

And with that, he unfurled his wings as he had for a few of his friends on the ship already. Only with Chloe, it was different. "The replica you saw was nice and all, but nothing compares to the real thing, does it?"

The expression on Chloe's face transformed from fear to awe at the sight of his wings. They were...beautiful. More than beautiful...they were like nothing she'd ever seen. They were...divine, in the very most literal sense. They were the wings of an angel, which was what Lucifer was. Literally.

"I..." she reached out a hand as if she wanted to touch, but then clenched her fist and pulled it back.

"It's true...it's all true. What you said...all of it."

She swallowed, then pulled away from him, sitting heavily in a chair, her head spinning.

"But you're such a good person...angel...devil..."

"Yes, well maybe I did something right, to get my wings back," Lucifer said. "Think back, detective. When I was looking for my wings and you made fun of me, but then because you're a good person decided you'd help me even though you didn't understand? Remember that? The wings we found at the auction were fake, but I found my wings after, and I burned them. Then after our latest case I called you and left you a message saying I was going to tell you everything. I was knocked out, and I woke up in the desert with my wings back."

That was a lot to take in, he was sure, but he had more. "I mean, I was here, of course, but one morning I woke up with new memories of what had happened back on earth while I've been up here."

He shrugged, there wasn't any easier way to explain the completely insane situation they were in. "Anyway... I tried to tell you..."

"You tried to tell me from the very first time you met me," she said with a nod, swallowing. She was still trembling, but she wasn't about to just bolt out the door. He was the same person she'd always known, just...more. And so many things were making sense and falling into place that hadn't before...

"Like I said, I never heard the message," she said. "But you...maybe it was something about telling me? Although I don't know what."

She took a step closer to him, holding her hands to his cheeks and staring in his eyes.

"I'm really trying not to freak out here. I'm probably going to have horrible nightmares tonight. I mean, one of my best friends is the devil. Does that mean -" she paled. "You didn't show up to take me to hell, did you?"

"I left hell because I was tired of being the devil," Lucifer pointed out, patiently. "And no, I didn't show up to take you to hell. I was in Los Angeles five years before I met you. Do you remember the first time you were shot, and what I said then? Father couldn't have you yet?"

He met her gaze and continued, "You said yourself, you know what kind of a man I am. I'm still that person, Detective. The only thing that's changed here is now you believe me when before you didn't."

She did remember that. It was fuzzy because she was close to passing out from the pain and the blood loss, but she remembered those words. It had been their very first case together, and she'd seen him shot a ridiculous number of times...she'd tried to rationalize it away, but there hadn't been an explanation that really fit until now.

She nodded, then looked down, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"This is a lot, Lucifer. A lot. I mean, I feel like I should start going to church or something now that I know it's all real." She half-smiled, only half-serious about that.

Suddenly she looked up at him.

"When I was poisoned...what did you do? How did you save me? I never figured it out. You shouldn't have been able to figure out the formula for the antidote. I should have died."

"Now that story requires a drink," Lucifer said, getting up and disappearing to the bar, returning with two glasses and a bottle. "I'm going to give you the short version. My wings are my way to and from hell, right? So no wings, no hell, with a few exceptions. Anyway, there's one sure way for the devil to get back otherwise, and that was to die and go to hell. Which I did and I met up with our old friend and convinced him to give it to me, and then I almost got stuck down there myself..."

He poured the drinks and slid a glass over to her. "Anyway, when I finally made it back, I had the formula. That's the condensed version, at least. Any other questions?"

"Wait, you're telling me you died in order to save me?" Because that was sure what it sounded like. And that brought a burst of anger from somewhere inside her, which she certainly hadn't expected. "If you ever do anything that stupid again, I'll kill you myself."

Threatening the devil. Maybe that was really stupid. But he was also Lucifer...and he wouldn't hurt her. She knew that absolutely. Lucifer was no threat to her.

"Wait...yeah, one more question. If you're immortal, how did you manage to die?"

Lucifer couldn't help himself, that unexpected burst of anger made him choke back laughter. "Sorry, Detective. But maybe you should just look at it as I literally went to hell and back for you?"

Glancing at her, he said, "I'm not immortal around you. I was, that first time we were shot at. But I think saving your life changed that, and I don't fully understand it."

That was true, if maybe not the full truth. That definitely could wait. There was no way Chloe needed to know about Amenadiel's role in her birth right then.

"Around me? Just me?" Now that was weird. Why was she special? As far as Chloe was concerned, there was very little special about her. She was just a divorced single-mother who was doing her best to give her daughter a good life. Just another overworked cop who actually cared about justice.

She took a long sip of her drink, then locked eyes with him.

"Is there someone every generation or something? If I'm supposed to hurt you or kill you or something like that, then fate can go screw itself." Lucifer was as safe around her as she was around him. She hadn't literally gone to hell and back for him, but she'd let her father's killer walk free. That was almost an equal sacrifice, in the end.

"Yes," Lucifer said. "Just you. Saving your life and all, not exactly something you think the devil would do. Amenadiel even warned me that would change things..."

He realized then that she would have to come to terms with Amenadiel, Charlotte, and most of all, Maze.

"Not that I'm aware of, but I appreciate the sentiment all the same," he said.

"No, definitely not something the Devil would do," she said. She cocked her head a little and looked at him. Even though she knew that it was true, and that she should be more than a little terrified, she just...wasn't. She knew him too well, trusted him. And like he'd said, he wasn't any different than he'd been before the reveal. She just knew more.

"I've got about a million questions," she said. "Including one about fiddles of gold in Georgia." Her eyes twinkled mischievously. "But...you're my friend, regardless. I mean, we've been friends for this long, right? Why should anything change?"

"Exactly," Lucifer said. "Nothing should change. I'm glad you're taking this so well, Detective. I mean, it could be that you're completely overwhelmed by the space thing, I suppose. When I got here, it was just me and Maze, but at least I had her. Before she disappeared."

He paused, wondering if he should have brought up the fact that people could disappear at any moment.

"I'm...actually not sure I'm taking it at all," she said. "It may just be mixed in with all the other freaking out I'm doing. It might hit me in a few days once I settle in and give me a huge panic attack. Who knows?"

But for now, she wasn't panicking. She was staring at him curiously, though.

"Is this what you really look like?"

Chloe was staring at him, and he was staring back at her. "Detective," he started. "Are you sure you want to ask that question? The answer is yes and no, but let me assure you that I don't think you're ready for my true form. Dr. Linda wasn't. It took Maze to calm her down, somehow."

Chloe pondered that for a moment.

"It can wait," she said. She had enough to deal with already and she didn't want to freak herself anymore. Maybe she was okay right now, but she had a feeling that it woulld hit her in the middle of the night.

She thought back to something that he'd said before.

"Maze is..." she stopped. "She's a demon, isn't she?"

Lucifer nodded, more than relieved that he didn't have to risk Chloe dealing with things well and then not dealing with them at all later on.

"Yes," he answered. And then to preempt any concerns with that he added, "And Trixie is safer with her than with pretty much anyone. Also, Amenadiel is my brother, just pure angel. And Charlotte wasn't exactly my stepmom but let's save that one too?"

She nodded. She'd had a rush of panic at the idea of a demon with her daughter, but it was the same as with Lucifer. Maze had always been a demon. Nothing had changed except what she knew.

She nodded again, to herself.

"Okay. Okay. I can...I can do this. Really, the evidence all falls into place with that one piece of the puzzle. Well, most of it, anyway. I still have a few questions...like, why can't you do your desire mojo on me? And...well...Are you still an angel?"

"I don't know what I am anymore," Lucifer said. "I burned my wings. Amenadiel stole them, by the way. Or had them stolen. He wanted me to get nostalgic for hell and it almost worked. Now they're back. I have a feeling my father's just messing with me again but how am I going to find out?"

He shrugged, but then regarded Chloe closely. She'd asked him directly about what made her special in a way he couldn't attribute to saving her life and he contemplated how best to answer. "There is a reason that doesn't work on you," he said. "I don't think you're ready to hear it."

"I don't know how, here. But if your...dad created the Universe and everything in it, maybe he's here too? I don't know. I can't answer that. But I think they're beautiful. Your wings, I mean. They...this is going to sound weird? But they fit you."

She looked at him for a moment, obviously a little annoyed. Part of her wanted to know everything right now while another part of her recognized that was a bad idea. She was already feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything she'd learned.

She finally sighed, and shrugged a little.

"No, I'm probably not. There are tons of things I still want to know, though. Things I want you to tell me. Who Charlotte really was. Why you were banished from heaven. All of that. Your whole story. I want to know if all. Every bit."

"Right, that story is too long to tell before the lounge opens. But that doesn't mean I don't want to tell you, Detec... Chloe. Just, maybe you should sleep on all of this first?"

He looked at her, remembering when he'd first arrived and how overwhelming that had been on its own. Adding all of this in?

"And of course you're welcome to stick around once the Lounge opens. It's my favorite place on this ship. The gym is probably second."

"You know, I'm not even going to ask why you like the gym. I don't want to know." She could guess it was something g to do with hot sweaty athletic bodies and the fact that he'd probably slept with most people on the ship already. There were certain things Chloe didn't want to think about, and Lucifer's sex life was definitely one of them.

"Yeah, I think I'll stick around. You've got virgin drinks too, yeah? I don't think I need alcohol on top of everything else right now."

But she didn't really feel like leaving the lounge, either. She had too much to think through to be alone right now.

Glancing at Chloe, he decided to answer the question she decided against asking. "I like it because I can punch things, and it gives me a place to go and think that isn't here. Plus until now I could be used as a punching bag." Not so much anymore.

Nodding, he told her, "I'll make whatever you'd like. And if you need me, flag me down."

The shift's bartenders had already arrived and were getting ready for the night. "I'll take tomorrow off? We can talk at length then."

The surprise was apparent in Chloe's eyes, and immediately she felt a little bad for assuming the worst. Of course, it wasn't like he hadn't given her plenty of reason to think exactly what she'd thought, so only a little bad.

"That sounds perfect. And we should meet...in my quarters, maybe? Some place where we can have a little privacy and not have to worry about being interrupted. I'd offer to fix dinner, but honestly I don't even know where I could find groceries here."

She smiled then, and waved him away.

"Go do you. We'll talk tomorrow."
