WHO: Peggy and Lucifer
WHEN: 226406.24
WHERE: Peggy's office
SUMMARY: Lucifer shows off his wings
WARNINGS: None
STATUS: Complete

There were a few people on the Enterprise that Lucifer considered himself close to, and Peggy Carter was one of them. They had an interesting relationship, mostly consisting of him deciding that they should be friends and bothering her until she agreed. But Lucifer liked to think they had grown from there.

And so it was that he found himself in her office early one afternoon, closing the door behind him. He waited until she was looking up at him, and without a word he unfurled his wings, putting them on full display.

Seeing was believing, after all.

Peggy wasn't expecting anyone so when someone walked in without knocking and didn't say anything, she held up a hand while she finished the paperwork she was in the middle of. "Give me a moment, please," she said before flipping from one document to another, saving her work, and then looking up.

Her heart thudded at the sight before her though she was able to school her features so that her expression didn't change save for an arch of her eyebrow. "What's this?" she asked.

"I got my wings back," Lucifer said brightly, stating the obvious. "What do you think?"

He carefully turned around, making sure not to hit anything, to give her the full view.

She blinked at him and sat up a little straighter. She didn't say anything for a moment and then stood so that she could get a better look. "What, exactly, does that mean?" she asked, curious. Too curious, perhaps even. She wanted to reach out and touch them but managed to keep her arms tight at her sides.

"I have no bloody idea," Lucifer said cheerfully. "Except that I'm no longer confined to this ship and could in fact leave at any time. Isn't that brilliant?" he asked. "And since I'm no longer trapped, I no longer mind it. Except the music incident."

Glancing at Peggy, he grinned. "Well what are you waiting for? Come over here and touch them. It's not going to hurt."

She tipped her head to the side. "Are you saying that if you went and opened and airlock you could just … fly away? In space? Through space? Where would you go?" While Peggy understood that he was immortal, the devil, whatever one wanted to call it, it was still quite inexplicable to her that he might actually be able to survive in outer space.

"Can you feel it?" she asked, sliding her hand along the tip of the wing. "When I touch them?"

"Sure," Lucifer replied. "I could do that, though why would I want to? When I can just do this?" He disappeared from where he was and reappeared behind her desk instantly. "And I do feel it, vaguely," he mentioned.

Letting his wings retreat, he sat down in her chair. "So, those are my wings. I got them along with a bunch of memories of the life I've been living back on earth, in the past. This space thing really is better than any drugs I know of."

She turned when he disappeared and reappeared and shook her head. "That looks like it could be handy," she said, though her breath left her because she didn't like the surprise of his movement. The wings had been softer than she'd expected, and she twisted her hands together.

"Incredible that all it took was a few more memories and a pair of wings for you to suddenly be comfortable with this entire situation, hmn?"

"I'm no longer trapped," Lucifer repeated. "That's made this entire trapped on a spaceship thing a lot less daunting. Since you know, it's not true anymore."

He swiveled back and forth in the chair before doing a full spin. "So tell me, what's it like that you've now seen a fallen angel in person?" he asked. Because as careful as she was, he guessed his wings had to have some effect on her.

Of course the wings had an effect on her, though she imagined if she were the type of woman who hadn't seen many remarkable things in her life already, she might be either awed or horrified, depending. She leaned against the bulkhead and looked at him, a smile twitching at her lips. "They certainly take up a lot of room," she said. "And I'd be more impressed right now if I got to see you fly, however, I assume there's not enough room on the ship for that, hmn?"

Lucifer laughed. "You should have seen me in Hawaii, then," he mentioned. "I had plenty of space. There's room in engineering if you want to go down there," he added, as that had been one of the stops on Uhura's tour.

She hadn't been to engineering, but she didn't tell him that. She wanted to ask why he had been there but decided not to. "Maybe on our next shore leave you can show me," she said.

"Sure," Lucifer said easily. "Anyway, I thought it was about time you saw my newly returned wings. How have you been?" he asked.

"I'm touched," she said but she was fighting back a smile as she said it. She crossed her arms and looked over at him, leaning her head to the side. "Keeping busy per the usual," she said. "How are things going in the lounge?"

"You mean other when that douchebag decided to play the same song over and over again?" Lucifer asked. "Pretty good, actually. You should drop by more often, and keep me out of trouble."

He smirked, because they both knew little would keep him out of trouble if he was looking for it. Though it was technically his job to break up trouble in the lounge, and he thought he'd done just that, really.

Peggy laughed. "All right, I'll make you a deal, how about that," she offered. "If you promise not to do anything else that will make you spend time in the brig, then I'll make it a point to visit you in the lounge at least one night each week. How does that sound?"

Grinning, Lucifer replied, "Look how far you've come, making deals with the devil, now. But yes, that is a deal." And now he really couldn't break it, because he'd given her his word.

Now Peggy actually smiled. "Yes, I suppose I did just make a deal with the devil, didn't I? What'll happen if I break it?" she asked, not that she had any intention to break it. But she was curious about how exactly that might work.

"I'll have to track you down, which won't be difficult, and enforce it," Lucifer said. "But there's no mystical force binding us together now or anything. Don't worry. You'll just hurt my feelings if you don't keep your end of the bargain."

"I wasn't aware you had those," she said dryly, but then moved past her comment quickly. "Not to worry. I don't have any intention of breaking any promises that I make."

"On occasion, I do," Lucifer replied. "But that's one of the reasons that I like you," he added. "You're careful with what you say, even to an annoying degree. An extremely annoying degree."

At that, Peggy laughed. "Then I'm doing my job."
