Since arriving, Leia had spent much of her time either with her brother or in her quarters. Without a Resistance to lead, without a Senate, without her own world, she found herself at a loss. It wasn't a familiar feeling for her. She had always had something to do, somewhere to be, and yet here, everything she knew, loved, and cared about was absent.

Leia ordered a whiskey from the bar and moved near a window, where the familiar sight of stars blurring past made her more comfortable.

On a ship filled with interesting people, Lomea had developed an interest in a few of them. The ice queen in particular. Her roommate, Harley. Some others.

But this older woman had the sweet taste of the Force around her, like strings of fate leading off into the far reaches of time and space.

"It almost reminds me of home," Lomea said, appearing at Leia's side with a drink in her hand. "Though I believe their warp is slower than the Hyperspace I'm used to."

The skin and hair at the back of her neck prickled and an awareness that could only be the Force settled on Leia as the woman approached her. She watched her step up beside her out of the corner of her eye, keeping her guard up. "Where's home for you?" she chose to ask, knowing as she did so that she would recognize the world in a way She didn't with anything she had begun researching since arriving on the Enterprise.

"I don't know. My place of birth is ... Forgotten." Lomea took a sip of her drink, with all the elegance of someone used to the upper class of society. And yet there was an edge to her. She wondered if this woman would know any of these places. "I had an apartment on Dromund Kaas, where the council met. A place on Nar Shadaa, the shining moon above Nal Hutta. A temple on Yavin IV, where Revan fell. But none of them were ever home."

Leia couldn't help but turn to the woman, an eyebrow arched when she mentioned Yavin IV. And the others sounded familiar but weren't at the forefront of her mind at all. She shook her head just a bit and regarded the woman intently. "On Yavin IV," she repeated. "I'm from - I most recently lived on Hosnian Prime." She watched her face to see if there was any recognition.

There was a flicker of recognition in Lomea's eyes. "I cannot say I've ever been to the Hosnian system. But I remember seeing a report on the planet a few years ago, when the peace treaty between the Republic and Sith Empire broke down."

It hadn't been strategically located in a place for the Sith Empire to bother with, nor important enough of a core world to make attacking it useful for propaganda purposes.

The peace treaty between the Sith and - Leia's knowledge of ancient history was rusty and yet ... "It's the capital of the New Republic and home to the Galactic Senate. It has been for some years now." Her brother came from a time a few years ahead of her, which she was still trying to understand. Could this be similar with her, though on a wider scale?

Lomea tilted her head. "New Republic? The capital no longer on Coruscant? I know the attack on the Jedi Temple and Senate Building shook a lot of people, but I never thought they'd abandon that world."

Rather than where Leia was from, a better question might be when. "The last I knew, Empire and Republic came together to defeat the dark half of Darth Revan, a Dark Lord and former Jedi, intent on eradicating the both of us in his quest to defeat the insane Sith Emperor. He'd fallen out of balance. Excised the lighter half of himself."

She'd respected Revan, when she'd first learned of him. Understanding both sides of the Force was the clearest way to gain knowledge, power and strength. But she'd lost a lot of that respect by the end of it all. "After that, I was ready to celebrate our mutual victory."

Leia's grip on her whiskey glass tightened and she had to breathe out a few times to relax herself before shaking her head. "Ancient history, to me," she said in a gravelly tone. "I was born at the fall of the Republic, at the birth of the Empire, where the Emperor held power for years. The stories of the Sith and the Jedi - those are myths and ancient history to me." She took a long, slow sip of her whiskey. "Looks like we're from different times altogether." She inclined her head. "Leia Organa," she introduced, choosing to leave off the princess, the senator, and the general from before her name.

"Mm." Lomea took another sip, longer this time. What had become of the Empire she'd fought for so hard, that she'd tried to change from the inside out? Relegated to the dust bin of history. "I suppose Empires must always rise, and fall."

Turning towards Leia, she nodded her head. Unlike Leia, she was more than proud to announce her titles and accomplishments. Lomea had always been vain and proud. "Darth Imperius of the Dark Council. Force-walker and heir of Kallig. Slayer of Zash, successor of Tulak Hord. Conqueror of Corellia and destroyer of the Shadow of Revan. Dweller of secrets and master of Light and Dark. But none of that matters here, so you may call me Lomea."

About the only thing she wouldn't just announce to a stranger here, was that she'd been a slave before she'd broken her shackles and claimed her birthright.

Her eyes narrowed. "You're a Sith," Leia said flatly. She didn't flinch and didn't wrench herself away, even though she felt like it. Her heart pounded. Did Luke know that a Sith was here, on board this ship? Even a Sith she wasn't familiar with. From ancient history. Her hand held the glass even more firmly, in danger of breaking it if she didn't ease up, force herself to relax.

"That's quite a resume you've got there," she continued on dryly. She supposed she ought to give hers out as well, and considered it for a moment. Then she arched her eyebrow. "Since we're sharing titles, I suppose I could give you mind. Leia Organa, last princess of Alderaan, former Senator for the Galactic Senate, Hutt-Slayer, if you're one of those who enjoy that moniker, and current General and founder of the Resistance." She couldn't add Jedi Knight to that list; she refused the training Luke continued to offer her.

"Organa." Lomea actually exhibited surprise. It was a name she knew. And even better, she'd never liked the Hutts. "Princess. General. And Huttslayer? Impressive."

She suddenly found this woman even more interesting and extraordinary. "I'm familiar with the Organas. I was on Alderaan during it's Civil War, before the Republic helped seat that house as the rulers. It had been, as they say, a proxy war. Though the House the Empire backed acted...distastefully, so I did not particularly mind watching them go down in flames."

Was Leia angry? Fearful? Lomea found it hard to tell. Almost like she was very good at shielding herself from the Force. Either way she didn't like the Sith. "And yes, I am Sith. And you will find that we are as varied as the citizens of the Republic. Rarely is life as black and white as the Jedi would believe."

Leia arched an eyebrow. She knew she was formidable and impressive. That history was more along the line of what she knew. How many days, years had she spent studying the history of House Organa, of Alderaan, in preparation for the day when she'd eventually assume the throne over her mother. Not that that ever happened. The reign of House Organa, and Leia's assumption as queen, disappeared the moment Alderaan did. The thought made her heart hurt all over again. Some things just never left you.

"You're from very many years before I was born," Leia said. "Long before the end of the Jedi and the Sith entirely, I imagine."

"So it would seem." Long enough for her Empire to pass into legend. All the petty squabbles and bickering, the power plays and egos had amounted to nothing. "I suppose my efforts to save my people from ourselves were for naught."

At least the Jedi had ended too. She didn't really hate the Jedi. They were mostly annoying, self-righteous and meddled in things that did not concern them. Like thorns. Irritating thorns.

She'd rescued one once. Freed him from captivity when she was being considered for apprenticeship. As she'd hoped he proved to be useful later on, when she needed someone to vouch for her to the Republic.

"People always fall into needing someone to save them from themselves," Leia said a little cynically. Even after they had defeated the Emperor and ended the reign of the Empire, the First Order grew from its ashes. All the work they had done, all of the lives lost, fights fought, and yet they found themselves right back into the thick of things.

"Sadly, I don't think that will ever change," she murmured. She glanced over at the other woman. Perhaps a Sith from some time ago in her own ancient history wasn't a threat. She didn't feel like the woman was a threat, though she did wonder what Luke would think about it.

Lomea snorted, but she couldn't disagree. "In my studies of history, I've found that civilization, if you wish to call it that, often falls into the same traps. The Hyperspace War, Mandalorian Wars, Jedi Civil War, Great Galactic War, Galactic War, whatever finally felled your Republic...History repeats itself, because we fail to learn from it. This sin is particularly common among the Sith, but I've known enough of the Republic to see it there, too."

She nodded. It was completely true, even if she didn't want to believe it. "A vicious cycle," Leia agreed. She paused for a moment to take a slow sip of the whiskey. It had a bite, but it wasn't Corellian whiskey, and it didn't feel like home. But it was enough that it might take the edge off, a little bit. She glanced out the window for a moment and then back at Lomea. "It's different here, though. As far as I can tell. Almost like a breath of fresh air."

"It is. But they're still human. Or sentient, as the case may be. I read Terran history." Lomea studied Leia as she spoke. She reminded her of Grand Master Satele Shan in several ways. "They were barbaric, even by Sith standards, and yet they've survived into this... golden age. I suppose only time will tell if the cycle resumes."

"Terran," she said. "That's one of the planets in this part of the universe, am I correct? Earth?" Leia shook her head. "I have a note to read through the history. But I've been taking the time not to think about history or politics for once in my life." Besides, she had other things on her mind. Luke. What she learned about Ben and the future. Family stuff.

"Earth, or Terra. The human homeworld, I believe." It was strange, that there were humans here. That they'd have a planet, and a history on that planet. No one knew where humans had come from in her time period. Only that they'd always been there. Had they come from here, some how? Lost voyagers far from where they'd started?

"I'll admit I've enjoyed not having to watch my back constantly."

The human homeworld. That was odd for her to hear. Humans in her time tended to congregate everywhere, pop up, claim various planets as their home. But no one knew from where exactly they originated. She looked in surprise at Lomea. "It is nice not to have to look over your shoulder every day," she agreed.

"I suppose a princess general resistance leader would have enemies." In her day, someone like Leia could have easily ended up one of those rivals that one had an uneasy alliance with sometimes.

Her enemies were wide and varied, and she nodded. "It's hard not to have enemies, in my line of work." Leia turned and met her eyes. "I hope I don't have any here," she continued in a serious tone. The only things she knew of the Sith tended toward her being wary of the one in front of her, even if she wasn't acting like the Emperor or ... or her father.

Leia felt that she was telling the truth, even as limited with her sensitivities as she was. Or rather, she knew inherently that she didn't have any need to fear Lomea in the same way she had feared her father and the Emperor. She paused to sip her whiskey and then half laughed. "Intriguing? Why?" It wasn't that she wasn't used to being referred to as intriguing; she simply wanted to know why this woman thought it of her.
