Mary & Tony
"Well I mean, the easiest way is verbally, you know. Like speaking hateful words at people, in modern times we like to use other words for that. 'Throwing Shade' is another one, that kinda just basically means something... like..." He squinted, struggling to find the exact meaning out of context, "Like your girl friends whispering stuff about you that's not true or kind of rude to your other friends. Or even people that you don't know. So they're throwing around dark words about you, throwing shade. And yeah so like-"
Tony realised that he'd almost have to get into the idea of 'meme culture' to explain some of these things, and he wasn't sure how to do that. "You know how we have these PADDS and we can use them to make text at each other. Imagine there's something like that, only the network to connect them is all over the world, and people talk on it every day. With their phones, or devices like these, or computers. And then there's this thing called 'social media', where lots of people can quickly have conversations about a thing or make quick updates about their lives. So they can 'throw hate' at you through that. A lot. A lot of hate gets thrown actually, the internet is a scary place. But yeah. Haters gonna hate is a phrase too. It means people who like to hate things are always going to be hating things."
