"It could be. There's usually a few reasons why a guy gets like this afterwards. Sometimes it's because they want to avoid 'clingy virgin syndrome'. That's... a really sexist phrase but yeah. Times like that they just don't want people to get attached or think it meant anything special. Usually though that goes along with deep seated emotional issues having to do with, you know. Vulnerability. And that leads to the second thing, which is usually when they feel too much about it and don't know what the hell to do next."
Tony'd been in both situations at least once in his life. He didn't know which side of that fence Sauron fell on, but it was always possible that it was both.
