Kate Beckett ([info]katebex) wrote in [info]toboldlyrpg,
At that she did roll her eyes, pressing her lips together to keep from smiling. Lucifer's penchant for drama wasn't a surprise, in fact, she'd pay good money to get him in a room with her mother-in-law to see who could out theatricalize the other, but the level of dramatics in that one comeback was nearly more than she could take with a straight face.

Swallowing down the urge to laugh, Kate made herself focus again on the murder, hearing out the rest of his story with her complete attention. As she suspected, he had only killed to save others, used extreme force to protect two innocent people from having their lives wiped out in what seemed to her like some elaborate and horrific game.

"I've killed more than one person. I spent a lot of time thinking about all the ways I'd kill one particular person," she began quietly, softly clearing her throat and tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "I've shot people to protect myself, to protect others. And this guilt you are feeling? It's normal. If it had been for someone you didn't know, you'd still feel it. But it being for someone you do? That makes it so much worse. It doesn't mean you need to be punished. I wouldn't even bring up charges if I had been working the murder. He could have come after you with the blade just as easily as anyone else."
