All in all, Kate felt pretty good about her surprise for Castle's birthday. He hadn't known about it until she told him and, once he'd been let in on the surprise, her husband had been thrilled and that was really all she had wanted out of the deal.

She had gone through two different rounds of laser tag before calling it quits and now sat in one of the booths inside the lounge, scrolling through her PPAD and reading up on the Yorktown Starbase. While other people had already done some research, Kate had been otherwise occupied with work or her husband since the announcement had been made about the Enterprise's next stop.

Snagging the stem of her glass between her fingers, she never took her eyes off the screen as she lifted the glass of red wine to her lips and took a sip, savoring the fruity flavor in contrast to the piece of half-eaten birthday cake also sitting in front of her. For a moment, she rolled the wine around on her tongue, letting its flavor build and fill her mouth before she swallowed it down, just in time for someone to approach the table and encourage her eyes to lift and see who had stopped by her little section of the bar.
