You're still talking to me? But whyβ€”

Partially. There appears to be a common theme of change β€” that is, a rare moment of insight wherein the subject was inspired to look inward and consider a new perspective. For some, that manifested under extreme physical duress, but for others, it was an otherwise typical moment in their daily routine.

Is it more of one than the other?

Difficult to tell. Generally, the people called to this cause possess extraordinary abilities, thus their experience lies in more extraordinary circumstances. We know the why of our selection, just not the how.

Not that I have any vested interest in returning to my world. I imagine most do.

If the why is correct.

I am sure many do.

Clever. Also, correct. We have no reason to trust the word of our captors.

You could refuse to follow orders, but that may result in more harm than merely being sent home. I intend to try it myself. Note the results.

I would trust their actions before their words. Machines I would not trust at all.

When are you doing that?

Interesting. What has your experience been with machines?

Assuming we're tasked with fighting a perceived threat in the near future, I will choose to occupy my time elsewhere.

I followed one once before, and many died as a result[...] including my brother. It killed him. I helped to destroy it after.

A threat they have not chosen to identify. They may wish us to turn upon each other. What will you do? Have you explored this Tortuga yet?

Your brotherβ€” I didn't God Forgive me. I was [...] unaware of your loss. That you succeeded in your revenge must be a small comfort.

Collect samples. Use the distraction to my advantage.

How could you have known? Very small.

I am interested in seeing the island outside in the mean time. We should learn more about where we are, yes?

I'm so sorry He may find himself here, if that's any consolation. A very high likelihood, in fact, should the self-made powers that be want to retain our interest.

I used to study this era as a child. The culture surrounding pirates is refreshing, despite their inevitable end.

...Then that would be a very good way for our captors to ensure my desire to stay. But he is gone He couldn't

I know very little about it. Will you walk with me?

Be wary. If they're capable of kidnapping from various worlds and resurrecting the dead, they clearly aren't above manipulation.

[...] You want to With me?

Why.

I always try to be.

Because I would like the company, and you said you have studied it, so you would know better than I how to understand what I will be experiencing out there.
