Rose jerked toward the sound of the voice, immediately taking a defensive stance. It wasn't the appropriate response to the greeting or the question, but she was constantly on her guard. Had been since she'd been on the run, even more so than what her guardian training had instilled in her.
Something about this place had her more on edge than usual, but Rose chalked it up to the whole freaky situation. Falling through a rift in time and space wasn't exactly a regular occurrence for her and it was setting her even more on edge than usual.
Paranoia mixed with the dark anger that always bubbled below the surface wasn't a great combination.
"I'm fine," she snapped at the girl. She felt a little guilty, but Rose hadn't stayed alive this long by being nice or by trusting random strangers, no matter how kind they seemed.
