Who: Ciri and another dryad (NPC)
Where: the forest by the school
When: early morning
What: Ciri meets a dryad but things don't go so well.
Right after dawn, everything in the forest was so peaceful. Ciri was taking one of her usual morning walks before classes, and after saying hello to the young saplings, she had gone deep amongst the trees. One of her goals was to find another dryad - although they were rare, one or two of them had to exist near a school of supernatural creatures. So far she had no luck, but then she had stuck close to the school. It was time to go exploring and thankfully the dryad could find her way back easily by recognizing the trees she passed. Her cheerful attitude remained as she walked, admiring the flora around her because it was so beautiful! She walked into a small circle of trees and decided here was a good place to greet everything around her.
"Hello!" she called in Ancient Greek and then repeated it in English, placing a gentle hand on one of the trees. The air was chilly but refreshing and she took a deep breath. Ciri stretched her arms above her head and twirled... and again, until a figure appeared in front of her. She gasped, stumbling backwards and almost fell to the ground. A woman stood in front of her, wearing no clothing and giving her a suspicious look. Could she be another one of Ciri's kind? "Are you a tree woman?" Ciri asked hopefully, in Greek again.
The other woman wrinkled her nose at her and Ciri wondered what she had done. "Yes, although I have difficulty imagining you are one yourself. You reek of human," she answered. The dryad leaned forward for a moment to peer at Ciri. "You have been seeded. Swollen with a human parasite." The harsh words caused a pang of hurt to hit Ciri, and she thought it was necessary to introduce herself. After all, she couldn't start things off on such a bad foot!
"The human is my male," Ciri said. "I am happy to have his child." The dryad stared at her as if she hardly believed what she was hearing and Ciri wanted to prove it to her. As quickly as she could, she shed her clothing and concentrated on changing into a tree. Nothing. Shock flooded her, so she tried to shift again, but still she remained in human form. What was happening? She started to panic now - although she prefered to be a human for Calvin's sake, there was a sense of security from being able to change.
The dryad was not sympathetic at all and continued to speak harsh words. "He has polluted your form and now you will never be able to rejoin the earth goddess completely again," she said. "I have no doubt that he turned you into a fire lover." For a dryad, this was a bad insult considering how deadly fire was to trees and Ciri's eyes filled with tears. "What persuaded you to interact with such a creature? Did he hypnotize you with his human gaze?" Ciri opened her mouth to protest, and the dryad persisted on looking at her with such scorn.
"No! I am not polluted! He has not turned me into a fire lover," Ciri said. "I wanted to talk to him!" The dryad scoffed and turned to walk away, no doubt to change back into a tree. "Please stay! I would like to talk to you." Not heeding her words, the dryad shifted back into a tree and Ciri started to cry. She threw on her clothes and headed back to the school, with a well of grief inside of her. She needed to talk to someone - no, she needed to talk to Go'al'enu, who was sure to help her.
