Who: Garret and Luca
What: A first meeting
Where: Garret's office
When: Midmorning
Rating: PG
Luca had no real reason to go see Garret other than he needed to see this man in person, a human that his father cared for enough to marry...something he still couldn't wrap his brain around. But maybe meeting the infamous Garret would help him understand, because meeting Rorie had not.
The young hound made his way down the hall, carrying the other man's favourite coffee, to Garret's office, trying to think of a cover story that made any type of sense at all other than he just wanted to introduce himself...or hi you know my father....who I haven't told I'm here yet even though he probably already knows. Fuck Luca was terrible at this shit. He stopped in front of Garret's office door and then knocked waiting for him to say come in.
Garret was in high spirits. His date with Mal was this evening, and he had a great evening planned out. They had never dated before, which was odd considering they had been married. But that wasn't really the way Garret worked. Still, he was looking forward to the evening, and replied with a cheery "Enter!" when someone knocked on his door. He was doing various administrative things, but nothing that couldn't pause for a fellow employee. "Oh," he said with his trademark smile, "um... Luca Rossi, right? Come on in, have a seat."
---
Luca put on his best smile and set the coffee down on Garret's desk. "Hello, yes I'm Luca." He said as he sat in the chair in front of Garret's desk and leaned back in it, making himself comfortable. "Thank you, I have been wanting to meet you." He said in his least creepy tone, and did is best to scent Garret without him realizing what he was doing. Which he knew would be hard considering Garret was married to his father and probably saw him do it a million times. But he did it as discretely as possible. He smiled at Garret's scent, he didn't smell as good as Will or Lloyd but he did still smell intriguing.
---
The coffee was a surprise, as was his calm confidence as he sat down. Quirking an eyebrow slightly, Garret took the cup and thanked Luca, taking a sip and wondering how the guy knew how he took his coffee. But then he started doing something very strange, and Garret paused mid drink before realized what was going on. And Garret laughed, sitting back in his chair. "Oh, wow," he said with a smile. "I didn't really connect it until now." Luca's file said hound, though Garret had just assumed he was just another hound come to work here, he wasn't the first. But now he was coming around, giving coffee and looking a little cocky like a certain someone else Garret knew. "You know Malcoda, don't you?"
---
He knew how Garret liked his coffee because Luca had watched him and Rorie before he came to the school, they weren't part of his assignment but for his own personal reasons he needed to know about them, understand why his father would chose weak mates. Luca raised an eyebrow when Garret laughed and then smiled, his eyes flashing red for a moment as he shrugged. "I don't know him personally but yes I know Malcoda, he's my father." Luca said smoothly, his eyes never leaving Garret's face. He was attractive enough he supposed but still only human.
---
Maybe, ten years ago, Garret might have been surprised at this news. But he wasn't. He laughed, and shook his head, and sipped his coffee. Chances were it wasn't poisoned. "Of course you are," chuckled. "Of course. I guess it was only a matter of time before a real son popped into his life." Max had been so long ago, and while not biological, he still counted as a son. And now, here was Luca. "So wait, you haven't even met Mal, but you're working here? So... what's the hold up?"
---
Luca would never hurt Garret or Rorie, his father cared for them so he assumed that would be a really bad thing to do. He smiled at Garret and then shrugged. "Not that it will make a lot of difference I'm sure. He has quite a few." Luca said as he reached into his leather messenger back and pulled out a bag from Lloyd's bakery and held it out towards Garret. "Cookie?" He asked before taking one for himself. "No I haven't met him I...I have been trying to find a way to approach him that won't involve him eating his young." Luca said with a slight frown before biting into the cookie.
---
Luca was... odd. For a moment, Garret thought that maybe he was nervous about meeting his father. But how was that possible? Hellhounds weren't the nervous type. It seemed, though, Luca had made his way around the school, meeting everyone except the one person he should have. "He's not going to eat you," Garret said plainly, shaking his head at the cookie offer. "He's not like that. I mean, he likes to act like that, but he isn't really. But don't tell him I said that. He gets annoyed when I tell people the truth about him."
---
The thing was Luca was nervous, his father had always been this huge, powerful creature in his life, who he was told wouldn't have any interest in him so not to bother. And then his demon master was incredibly interested in Mal and insisted Luca come spy on him. So honestly the human part of Luca was scared shitless of the hound who could easily kill him in seconds. "He isn't?" The young hound said in a surprised tone and then bit his lip. "I swear I won't tell him that you told me." He smiled and then sighed. "I plan on seeing him tomorrow, after classes."
---
With a wink, Garret nodded, and took another sip of coffee. "He's probably going to seem like he doesn't care that you're here, but he will. When Max- I guess you guys called him Miroslav, or just The Runaway- when he came, Mal was all hard and frowning and scoffing and acting like the kid was a huge burden on him. But I could tell he liked him. He has a soft spot he likes to hide. I guess for you guys, it's important to hide it. No offense, but the way thinks work in Hades is seriously messed up. I don't envy any of you."
---
Luca raised an eyebrow when Garret winked, but from what he had seen of the other man, that was pretty normal behaviour. When he started talking about Max, Luca nodded quickly. "I...know who you mean. I was...down there when they talked of him a lot." He said softly and then smiled as he described Mal's behaviour and then shook his head. "It is important, to hide it, to not have emotions at all because it's all used against you to train you." He frowned for a moment and then nodded. "It's a horrible place, I am forever thankful I did not grow up there."
---
Garret was thankful that he hadn't grown up there, too. Hellhounds were insanely screwed up. "So... Mister Luca. What is it you want with me?"
---
He had lived there long enough to be screwed up by it, but he hadn't been formed there so his humanity was still close to the surface. "That is such a loaded question but, what I want from you is to know you. I have to admit it shocks me that my father chose humans as his mates. Well I suppose Rorie is a were but..." He frowned, not wanting to offend Garret and then just shrugged because honestly this wasn't offensive to hounds but to humans it probably was. "How can your body handle mating with him?" He asked, obviously confused.
---
The question was very abrupt, and for a moment Garret was taken aback. Their marriage had been ten years ago, why would Luca want to know him? And why would he want to know about that? "Ahm..." Clearing his throat slightly, Garret scratched his chin, thinking. "Well... heh, that's sort of personal, don't you think? I mean you could start with the simpler stuff, like how we met, or... I dunno. Anything except that maybe?"
---
Luca blinked at him for a moment, the look was very hellhound, not at all human and then it was gone and he blushed wickedly and bit his lip. "I am so sorry Garret, my mother would smack me if she knew I asked you that. Of course that was incredibly rude." He frowned for a moment and then shook his head. "I forget my human manner sometimes. Ever since I found out my father married humans I have been confused as to how it was possible. Any human I was ever with...well it didn't turn out well." He sighed and then nodded. "I assumed you met at the school? Did you? It would be nice to hear stories about him that aren't all doom and gloom."
---
Wow, Luca was so not like Mal. Mal had never blushed in the entire time Garret knew him, and he sure as hell didn't bite his lip like that. He didn't get bashful. A slow, small smirk etched itself onto Garret's lips as he watched Luca. Very cute. Very... not Mal.
"Well... yeah, we met at the school. Actually we officially met through a mutual friend. And um... a threesome, actually. She moved away and your... and Mal and I grew closer. At first it was sort of a challenge. He's a hound, you know, and therefore sort of unreachable, emotionally speaking. I was determined to wedge my way into his heart. And from there, it just sort of..." He shrugged, picking up a pencil and fiddling with it. "I guess we just fell for each other. It sounds like it's so simple, but it was more complicated than that. But really, that's all. We fell."
---
Luca wasn't like Mal, but he chocked that up to growing up in a wolf pack, with humans. He had far more emotion than he let on and he was terribly embarrassed over what he had asked.
He listened to Garret talk, scenting him as he remembered, it was such a common thing for Luca to do he didn't even know he was doing it. He smiled when he talked about Mal and how he kind of pushed his way in and then nodded. "That sounds like it was very frustrating for him at first and quite enjoyable for you. You must be a very determined man to go after the heart of a hound."
---
With a shy little smirk, Garret nodded. "I'm stubborn," he said simply. "Possibly more stubborn than Mal, even, and that's saying something. Though he'll never admit that he was interested in me at the beginnning, but... I know better. I know him a lot better than he'd like me to, or that he'll ever admit to. He's obvious about things, if you know how to look. It's in the details with him."
---
Luca chuckled at the statement that Garret was stubborn. "You don't say, I would have never thought so." He murmured teasingly and then bit at his bottom lip. "I supposed you would have to be stubborn and determined if you are going to go after a hellhound, Especially one like Mal who lived his whole life down there." He said softly and then smiled. "It sounds like my father made a good choice with you."
---
For a moment Garret fell quiet, not sure if Mal had made a good choice by choosing him as his mate. After all, he had left, hadn't he? Garret was pretty sure that Mal could do better than him, but for some reason, he hadn't moved on. He had stayed at TJS, where it probably wasn't safe for him, just because Garret had been there.
"I think he liked feeling in charge of something," Garret said finally. "He had been a slave for Hades for so long, and I didn't ask anything of him. I just liked him how he was. He got to control things for once."
