Linc had said that he needed a woman, and in some ways, he was right. He needed to try being in a relationship, he needed to open himself up to let someone in, he needed to learn to trust. His friendship with Nic could only go so far in that way. Unfortunately for Lincoln, his only friend was not the kind of man who went out to find people to date. So while Nic wanted to be of help, he didn't know how. There were typical places, such as bars and clubs, but what kind of woman would they find there? Probably not the quality of person Linc would need.
Brow furrowed as he contemplated this, Nic walked into his apartment, hung his keys up on the hook, put down his laptop case and went to greet his current flatmate. But his mouth stopped in its greeting at the sight before him. Lincoln. With no pants on. "Why are you... what... put pants on!" he shouted, covering his eyes.
For a long time Linc had wanted some female company but had never really wanted to admit to that. A hunter was sufficient and capable of being alone because all a hunter could trust was himself in all aspects of life. You could never trust anyone not to die or to leave you but you could take care of yourself if you had the knowledge. Alone was easier, always had been... until he'd realised that he didn't really want to be alone, then he'd thrown himself at Nox very... unashamedly. Yes he had Nic but he wasn't the cuddling post-coital type. Linc was reaching an age where he missed the company of a woman in more ways than the bedroom.
Sitting on the sofa Lincoln watched TV. In boxers. It was probably good he'd chosen not to wear briefs or the usual nothing-at-all attire of his own apartment, when Nic walked through the door. It was so stupid to cover his eyes though. "Nic, are you ashamed to see another man's body? Are you that insecure?" Linc stood, turning off the TV. "I'm wearing boxers, it's just my chest."
---
It wasn't that Nic was opposed to seeing a man's chest. He was very opposed to seeing his friend in his underwear, however. One wrong move and the secret between them- one of the few left- would be revealed. He had no desire to see any more of Linc than necessary. "Just put on some pants!" he grumbled, rolling his eyes and passing Linc to go into the kitchen. "You're in my apartment, I would appreciate it if you didn't lounge around on my things without bottoms. There is not enough material between you and my sofa for my comfort."
---
With a chuckle and a shake of his head Lincoln walked to his makeshift wardrobe where he was able to grab his pants and pull them over his legs, doing up the belt with a lazy sigh before he pottered after Nic to annoy him in the kitchen. "I might move back into my apartment," he mentioned casuallly. "I miss my bed. And that I don't hear you snoring and whinnying in the night." He paused, then. "But I kinda like being here when you turn. You know. Just in case."
---
In the kitchen, Nic was getting himself a drink and searching for a snack. He had some leftover steak bits in the fridge, and he was gnawing on a cold one when Linc came to bother him, thanksfully wearing pants now. "Oh," he said simply, with a small shrug. Maybe it would be better for Linc to go home now, though Nic didn't mind having him around. Though only when he was mainly clothed.
"In case what?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
---
Linc shrugged, moving over to the cupboards to find something for himself to eat. There wasn't much, so he just grabbed an oat bar for now and then leant on the counter, ripping it open. He shrugged at Nic's question, staring at the bar. "I dunno. In case you need someone for something." He wouldn't mention it was to keep an eye on him or defend him from harm that might come his way when he wouldn't be aware of it. Nope.
---
Whenever Linc was quiet, that was when Nic knew something was going on in that broody head of his. Most people babbled, or stammered, when they had a secret they wouldn't admit. Linc? He kept quiet. He became too nonchalant. So with a knowing smirk, Nic said smoothly "Oh I see. So, the walls and magic wards around the school aren't doing their job, are they? I must have a human with a scowl and shaggy hair close by?"
---
After taking a bite of the bar Linc shot Nic a warning look, dark and broody just to uphold his reputation, before he chewed forcsfully. Nic thought he had Linc pegged so damn well. The hunter wouldn't ever give Nic an incling that he was right. "You just gonna eat raw steak all night and annoy me or what?" he asked, through intense chewing. .
---
Now equipped with his own frown, Nic bit off another piece of steak. "It isn't raw," he said irritably. "It's rare. And no, I have no plans on annoying you all night." He chewed, then swallowed, before continuing. "I thought maybe we could leave tonight and go out some place. You know, bring you out of the school grounds for a change. Maybe be around people?" If he came on too strong, Linc wouldn't go for it. He was skittish, like a surly rabbit.
---
"Same difference." Why people liked to eat their meat still bloody or freshly sliced from the cow was beyond Linc's understanding. So many diseases happened but then he supposed Nic wasn't like normal people that way. Nic's suggestion was met with suspicion, clear from the narrowed gaze Linc shot at him. "Why would I wanna be around people. I'm around you. You're fine."
---
With a huff, Nic replaced the lid on his tupperware container and stuck it in the fridge. "Because every day I see your frowning, angry face, and even God himself got one day to rest." Taking another drink from the milk jug, Nic wiped his mouth and set it back in the fridge, then let the door fall shut. "I will put it this way. I am going out tonight, where there will be other people. You can stay in my apartment and clean like you are my wife, or you can come out and maybe enjoy yourself." Without bothering to see Linc's reaction (which would probably be a scowl anyway), Nic headed off to the bathroom to have a fast shower, change his clothing, then wait for Linc to be finished getting himself ready so he could begrudgingly come as well.
---
When Nic got pissy he got really pissy. Linc watched him sup the milk and huff like a girl before stomping out of the room to announce he was going to have fun tonight, then waited to hear the sounds of the shower before muttering a 'fuck me. He'd had no interaction with many people of late, and he didn't honestly fancy sitting around this apartment another night, nor sitting at his own. So, it was while Nic was showering that a begrudging Linc let himself into the bathroom, using the sink to wash under his armpits and style his hair, before he went and grabbed the only clean t-shirt he had and shrug on his trusty leather jacket. Enjoy himself. Psh. He'd like to see THAT happen.
---
Pouring the shampoo into his hand, Nic paused, listening over the sound of the shower as some noise happened outside the curtain. A slow, smug smile crossed his lips as he heard the sound of the faucet, and Linc's quiet mumblings that accompanied it. Of course he had expected as much, but it was still very pleasing that Linc wouldn't dig in his heels and adamantly refuse to enjoy himself. Once Linc was safely gone, Nic turned off the water and climbed out, drying himself off and slipping off to his bedroom to get dressed.
Emerging a few moments later, freshly dressed and smelling faintly of cologne, he met Linc on the sofa, sitting gently down beside him. "So... I'm going now," he mentioned, waiting patiently for Linc to grunt a reply like an ape. "I see you got dressed. Expecting someone?"
---
Ugh. He hated it when Nic did this. Unfolding his arms Linc turned off the game on TV then turned to his were friend with a very annoyed expression. "I'm expecting an ass of a friend to sit beside me looking all smug that he tricked me into going out with him." And even before he could see the expression of triumph he knew was going to come Linc raised ahand. "Don't do that. It's not cute. I know what you're doing. Open the door, get me to the parking lot before I change my mind..." He stood then, finally venturing out of the apartment for more than just work or food.
---
It was hard not to be smug when you lived with a cartoon character. Linc was ridiculous in his determination to be surly and unhappy. "I'm not your mother," Nic said with a shrug, getting up to follow his friend out the door. "I'm not going to force you to do anything. But, I am glad that you are coming with me." He didn't like going to the kind of place he planned to take them, and he certainly didn't like going alone.
But he wasn't going to tell Linc that. He wasn't even going to mention where they were going, if he could at all help it. Linc would definitely turn tail if he knew. Leading the way to his car, Nic watched his friend carefully, trying not to smile too much. "You look nice," he said softly, getting into the driver's seat. "Handsome."
