Who: Remington and Candi
When: Friday night
Where: his apartment
What: chatting/comforting (and apparently sex!)
FYI: NSFW
Once the sun went down Candi was up and out of her apartment, not wanting to be inside it anymore. She hadn’t been able to sleep the day before, terrified that Wolf would come into her dreams but apparently he wasn’t after her at the moment…so logic told her that he was after someone and was it Jason. She needed to talk to someone and as much as she trusted Charlie, he was too close to Jason and it was going to cause them issues. So now she found herself in front of Remington’s door and she lifted her hand to knock a couple time times before actually connecting with the door.
Remington had just returned from the gym, showered and had gotten into some comfortable mesh shorts and a t-shirt when he heard the knock. He limped a little from the bathroom to the front door, because rehab had really kicked his ass today (well, he'd kicked his own ass). The urgency of the knock made him hurry as best he could. He found Candi standing on the other side. "What's wrong?"
She smiled at him and then chewed on her lip for a second. “Um…I’m worried and can’t sleep and I needed to talk to someone and…I really wanted to see you. Can I come in?” She asked as she crossed her arms under her chest as she waited for his answer.
Remington nodded immediately and pulled the door wide as he stepped back. "Do you want anything? I could get you a drink.. or.. something." He wasn't sure if offering drinks to vampires was insulting or polite.
“Thank you.” She said as she walked into his apartment and then perched on the arm of the couch. Candi smiled at him and then licked her lips. “Unless you are offering me your wrist I will pass thank you.” She sighed and then rolled her shoulders. “I’m worried that my sire has contacted Jason.”
If not for the smile on her face that indicated she was kidding, Remington probably would have offered her his own blood. Now that he knew Candi and felt he could trust her, he wouldn't mind helping her in the feeding department. "You think your sire is here?" he asked urgently.
Letting her drink from him would be a bit of a surprise for Candi, but she might need to ask for real if she was here long enough, she had a tendency to not eat when she woke up. She shook her blonde head and picked at a non existent piece of lint on her jeans. “No, he’s not here. Wolf is a dream walker…he can enter people’s dreams…especially ones he sired.” She said with a frown.
Remington breathed a bit easier. He was relieved to hear that Candi's sire wasn't on campus, but the news about him being a dream walker was upsetting in its own right. "Have you talked to any of the witches on campus? Perhaps they could find a way to keep him out of your dreams.. and Jason's."
Candi raised an eyebrow at Remington and smiled slightly. “No I haven’t…I never even thought they could help. I mean Wolf is so strong…but if they could help Jason it would be amazing.” She was quiet for a moment and then looked at him with a grin. “Not just a pretty face are you Remington?”
He shrugged. "People tend to think Marines are mindless fighters, and by being quiet a lot of the time, they think I'm stupid. You'd be amazed what people say when they think no one is listening.. or when they think the people around them are idiots."
Candi listened while he spoke and then shook her head. “It’s amazing what people will let slip when they think you’re just part of the furniture.” She slid onto the couch and sighed. “Living in Wolf’s den taught me sometimes it’s better to melt into the walls and go unnoticed.”
"Exactly." He sighed and motioned to the kitchen. "You sure I can't get you something? I mean.. most the vampires I've met like coffee. I think it's the heat."
Candi smiled at him and then nodded. “Sure coffee would be great, lots of sugar please.” She accepted it to make Remington more comfortable and maybe something hot would be worth sipping on. “I think you’re right, the heat of it feels good.”
Remington nodded and headed into the kitchen. He fiddled around a bit with the machine and then came back into the living area while it brewed. "I'm sorry that your sire is causing so many problems. What can I do to help?"
She watched as the man made his way to and from the kitchen. “This is what he does, but he never cared about Jason until now…I’ve been thinking about it and all I can think is it’s because Jason can walk in the daylight and he wants that.” She looked up at the ceiling for a moment and swallowed hard. “You can just…be a friend? And wake me up if I seem to have a nightmare?” She asked softly.
"But Jason can't give your sire that ability. I think it has more to do with possession in general." It sounded like Wolf was the sort who needed to control others. "I can be a friend.. and I can definitely wake you if you have a nightmare. I have plenty of my own." He'd hurt Charlie the other night because she'd been too close when he had a bad dream.
Candi cleared her throat and then looked at Remington with wet eyes. “Yes he wants control of Jason so he will have a weapon in the daylight. That’s what he wanted from me, but when I changed I became a full vampire…well sort of, my beast likes to try to fight it every once in awhile.” She blushed because usually it showed up when she was having sex. “So essentially I’m asking to sleep in your apartment…” She said quietly.
"We won't let that happen," he reassured her. Remington would do what he could to keep Candi and Jason safe. She was as safe as possible right now in his apartment, and he didn't mind if she stayed. It seemed his refusal of sex with the women in his life made them prone to sleeping in his bed. "You can stay," he said with a grin and then went to fetch her coffee. he returned a few seconds later with a steaming mug.
Candi smiled at him and felt oddly reassured. “No we won’t.” She nodded and then pulled a pillow into her lap and hugging it. “Thank you.” She murmured and then took the mug from him when he handed it over. “Mmm this is going to make me hungry I think.” Candi said softly as she sipped the coffee.
He nodded when she said thanks and moved to sit beside her. "Have you fed?" he asked. Remington knew that when he was really worried about something, he sometimes forgot to eat.
Candi leaned against him and rested her chin on his shoulder. She wasn’t sure why the hell she was so comfortable with him but it was nice to just reveal who she was before she died. Candi had been strong but emotional, sarcastic and caring…and for whatever reason Remington made her feel like herself. “No…I’ve been putting it off lately, I just keep forgetting.”
Remington rested his head against hers and reached over to take her free hand, giving it a squeeze. "You can feed from me if you need to. I don't mind."
Candi smiled at his offer and then bit her lip. “Are you sure? I mean I have to say that’s really surprising but I wouldn’t turn it down if you’re serious.” She rubbed her cheek against his shoulder for a moment. “Have you ever been fed off of before?” Candi asked softly.
Remington nodded. "I have. And I am serious." He didn't want to go into details about his experiences though. Besides, it didn't much matter when, where, or who had fed from him.
Now that had surprised her. Her eyes widened and she took his hand and squeezed his hand for a moment. “Sometime you should tell me about it.” Candi said as she lifted his hand up towards her face and sniffed his wrist, tongue flicking out and licking over his skin. Her beast still needing this, she was tasting him and knowing his scent.
"Go ahead," he told her softly when she seemed to hesitate. He didn't realize that the sniffing and licking was part of her routine. He thought maybe she was worried he'd change his mind. He'd been through far worse than a little biting and bloodletting.
Candi let her tongue drag over Remington’s skin and then lifted her head to look into his eyes, her own eyes golden with her beast. She smiled at him and then lowered her mouth to his wrist, biting down, feeding. A soft growl escaping her as her beast swelled inside as much as it could, it liked Remington, trusted him.
Remington didn't even flinch when her fangs sunk into his skin. He knew pain, and this didn't hurt. He just sat there, watching her feed from him. He even reached up to help push some of her hair out of the way so it wouldn't get stained by his blood by accident.
Remington tasted so damn good, but under it she could taste chemicals, but it made sense the man was in pain he needed drugs for that. She felt him move her hair and was again surprised. She didn’t feed for as long as she wanted to, because honestly that would have made him a bit woozy so she lifted her mouth and licked at his wrist for awhile and wiped off her mouth. Candi was a pretty clean eater, she rarely got blood on her face. “Thank you so much. You’re going to need a bandage for that.” She said softly.
Remington took more drugs than he probably needed, though he didn't think so. He was in constant pain, and they helped numb it. Plus, they helped him sleep. He had fewer nightmares after a few pills followed by a few shots. "I'll be right back," he told her when she was done and commented on him needing a bandage. Remington limped off to the bathroom and got some gauze to wrap around the wound. He returned just a minute later. "Feel better?"
Candi: Candi smiled at him when he left and then licked her lips and fell back into the couch. He tasted way too good to her and unless she was going to feed off of him regularly she shouldn't do that again. When he came back she smiled at him and nodded. "Yes actually a lot better than you, sit with me again?" She asked him.
Remington shrugged. "It doesn't hurt, and I don't mind helping a friend." She'd not beaten him unconscious or anything. He could handle a little blood loss. Hell, he'd nearly bleed to death after the bombing. This was nothing. He sat beside her and rested back into the cushions.
"I'm glad it doesn't hurt." She said softly as he sat down and immediately wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head on his shoulder again, her body warm now from Remington's blood.
Remington wrapped an arm around her in return. She seemed to need the comfort. "I've been through worse."
It was a combination of comfort and closeness from having Remington's blood running through her. "Mmm I know you have, so have I." Her fingers ran up and down his side and then she sighed. "How are you getting along with your family?" She wanted to talk about something other than her sire.
Candi was getting a bit handsy. Not uncomfortably so, but he worried she might take his concern for her wellbeing the wrong way. He'd not offered his blood as a means of getting intimate. He'd offered because it was what she needed. "You mean my brother." He didn't speak to his father or sister.
Candi actually was a touchy person, but if Remington didn't like it she would stop if he asked. She still knew who Remington was and that he wasn't interested in her. "I do mean your brother, he's your family along with your niece." She said softly, Candi couldn't be near her own so she was hoping to hear good things from Remington about his.
"They're fine," he said shortly. Talking about his family made him uncomfortable, far more than being close to her did.
Candi sighed, she didn't need to be an empath to know that Remington didn't want to talk about them. "I see well that's good." She said softly and took her arms from around his waist but stayed against his side.
"Are you tired?" he asked, looking down at her with concern in his eyes.
The blonde looked up at him and shook her head. "i don't want to." She said softly as she bit at her lip.
Remington got to his feet and offered his hand to her. "Come on.. I'll stay awake. You need to sleep. I'll give ya a nudge if you start to have a nightmare."
Candi sighed and started to get up taking his hand and following him to the bedroom. "Don't let me sleep for too long, I only need a couple of hours."
"I'm going to let you sleep for as long as your body allows." He pulled back the covers for her and helped her climb under them. "You need it. I'll.. read a book."
Candi frowned at him and then pulled Remington down so she could kiss his cheek. "You are a good man Remington Quinn, if I was a different type of woman I would be in love with you right now." As it was Candi didn't know how to do that so she thought of him as her friend as she snuggled under the covers. "Read something good, nothing boring." She said with a yawn as she snuggled into the man's pillows.
Remington allowed her to kiss his cheek, and he smiled at her compliment. "You wouldn't be the first.. probably not the last." Women seemed to fall for him easily. He pulled the covers up over her body and walked around the bed to fetch his current book from the nightstand. Remington sat on top of the covers beside Candi and opened the tome.
It didn't take the vampire long to fall asleep, she was exhausted after all. She rolled over and instead of hugging Remington's pillows her arm was flung out over waist, face buried into his side.
Remington let Candi snuggle up to him. He even put his book down for a bit and ran his hand along her shoulder and back through her hair, comforting her as she slept.
Candi slept soundly for a couple hours but then she started to whine, eyelids fluttering and before Remington could do anything her arm snaps in the middle of her forearm while she cries out, still asleep.
Remington stayed awake as promised, though he had gone back to reading to help pass the time. When he first noticed her stirring, he put it down and watched her carefully, waiting to see if he should wake her. He didn't have time to make the decision though, because she was promptly injured. The sound of breaking bone made him spring to action though. He grabbed hold of her, pulling her up and saying her name loudly. "Candi.. wake up."
When she opened her eyes they were wild and it took a moment of baring her fangs at Remington to realize he wasn't the one that hurt her. "Fucking bastard!" She screamed and then gingerly held her arm before snapping back the way it was supposed to go with a small yell.
Remington was prepared for her to attack him because of the state of mind she'd been in when he woke her, but he had to do it. Thankfully, she didn't hurt him. But she was injured. "I'll call a healer."
Candi swallowed hard and just shook her head. "No healers, I just need to wrap it tight and it will heal by morning, faster if I feed again." She said, not suggesting Remington feed her, just stating a fact.
"Alright," he said, "Go ahead." If it would help her heal, he didn't mind.
Candi held her arm to her chest and looked at him. "I...didn't say that to...but okay." She said softly, taking the offer because broken bones fucking hurt. She moved closer to him and picked up his other wrist, not taking the time to taste him, she needed the blood now. Candi bit and drank just enough before letting go. "Thank you."
He allowed her to feed in peace. Remington was really concerned. He'd had no time to stop Wolf from attacking her in her dream. She'd barely stirred before her arm was snapped. How could he protect her? "You're welcome. I'm sorry I wasn't able to wake you in time."
Candi looked at him and shook her head. "No don't...he didn't come to play with me he warned me to not interfere with Jason and my arm was his warning." she said with a frown. "He was in my dream for seconds before he broke it."
"Still.." It upset Remington that he couldn't protect her. Maybe if he was a dream walker as well, he could fight Wolf on equal ground.
She smiled at him and touched him with her good hand. "Hey, he could have done worse if you didn't wake me, you're still my hero." Candi said softly as she leaned back against the pillows.
Remington moved to lie down beside her, wrapping the arm that wasn't bleeding slightly around her torso. "We need to find a way to keep him out of your dreams."
Candi nodded slightly and then cuddled against him the best she could. "I don't even care what he does to me...i just want to keep him out of Jason's dreams." She said softly.
"It's the same thing. We need to talk to some of the witches on campus and see if they know of a way to block him from entering dreams. There must be a spell.. maybe an amulet or potion."
"We can try it...who knows something must work...although I've never seen him stopped before." She said with a sigh, wincing at the pain in her arm but pleased that it was less.
Remington hugged her to his body and kissed the top of her head. "There's a solution, we just have to find it. You don't have to take this abuse. I won't let you."
Candi laughed softly and then smiled up at him. "I know you will try to protect me." She was quiet for a minute and then laughed softly. "Never thought I'd be laying here with you of all people comforting me after the way we met."
Remington shrugged and smiled. "That was a bad night for me. I'm sorry for judging you so quickly." But he'd gotten to know her better since then, and he did feel protective of her. It was in his nature. He didn't like bullies.
Candi shook her head and smiled. "i forgive you for it now, I understand it was a bad night." She winced when she shifted her arm and then sighed. "I hate healing bones, it sucks."
"You sure you don't want me to call a healer?" he asked, not wanting her to be in pain.
"I will heal it soon enough, this is nothing compared to healing all your bones at once..it hurts but I will survive." She said softly and then nuzzled into Remington's shoulder, out of comfort.
"What can I do then?" He felt the need to help. He didn't like sitting around doing nothing.
She smiled at him and shrugged. "Whatever you would do if I wasn't here. You can just keep me company, you're good at that." Candi was more than happy to lay next to Remington. He was a safe place to be, she still wanted to have sex with him but being friends with him was good too.
He nodded and hugged her to his body. After a few silent moments, he spoke up. "I was serving in Afghanistan. Some friends wanted to explore in town when we had a night off. A woman recognized my abilities.. even without me really using them. She was a vampire." Candi wanted to know.
She accepted the closeness and then listened attentively as Remington spoke. Candi had a feeling that he didn't do this often. "You must have liked her...I mean to let her get close enough to feed from you."
Remington shrugged. "We had an arrangement." He didn't know if he needed to elaborate.
"You had an arrangement?" Candi asked curiously, she thought she knew what he meant but the vampire wasn't sure.
Remington nodded. "Sex. What else?" He thought it was clear, but perhaps not.
Candi opened her mouth and then shut it. "Oh I....oh." She bit her lip and then sighed. "She got blood from you and sex...lucky girl." She smirked up at him so he would know she was teasing but she was a little serious.
"I got sex in return for my blood. She could have been executed for sleeping with me." Not that the woman didn't enjoy herself, but it was very risky.
Candi shrugged and closed her eyes for a second as she readjusted her arm and double checked she put the bone in the right place. "i'm sure it was worth it."
"She was killed less than a year later." He said it casually. Death was commonplace at that time in his life.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Candi said as she opened her blue eyes and looked up at him. "Did it bother you?"
Remington shrugged. "She wasn't happy. And I'm sure it was fast. Another bombing."
Candi frowned a little bit and then nodded. "Hopefully it was fast." She said softly and then ran her fingers over his stomach and sighed.
He nodded and stayed quiet. He felt bad for the woman while she was living. She'd had a hard life like him, and now she was free of that pain.
Candi squeezed Remington's hand when he stayed silent and stayed quiet herself for a little while. "I miss eating food a lot...like blackberries, I love those."
"I'm sorry for all you've lost." And he was.
"I appreciate that Remington, but you don't need to be sorry. I have my moments like...this week has been bad for me. With Jason's birthday and the reminder of my death I've been uncharacteristically depressed...plus it's selfish but it hurts that Jason isn't the least bit worried about me with our sire threatening us...I don't deserve his worry but it still hurts."
Remington didn't want her to get down on herself. She was feeling unloved by her own son, and she feared for his safety. He leaned down and kissed her forehead.
Candi blinked and looked up at him with a little smile. "You're such a sweet guy and adorable, I hope you know that." Candi hated being down on herself, normally she was better but this week had been bad.
When Candi looked up at Remington and called him adorable, he smiled. Then, against his better judgment, he kissed her on the lips.
Candi loved the small smiles Remington would give now, but the kiss had been a definite surprise. She didn't put a lot of meaning behind it because Remington didn't want her in that way but it was a good kiss regardless.
It wasn't that Remington didn't want Candi. He just knew that sex with coworkers was a bad idea, generally speaking. Plus, he wasn't built for relationships. But he liked her, and he did enjoy the feel of her lips pressed to his. It had been a long time.
