Who: Rorie and Fox and Charlie near the end
What: Cards and a fist fight
Where: Common room
When: Afternoon
Rating: PG-13
Rorie was having the shitiest two weeks of his life that he could remember. Worse than when Finn ran off and they all thought he was dead. First his parents disown him, then his brother was almost murdered, he's locked down in the school, his boyfriend killed someone and is in love with someone else as well, he sleeps with his boyfriend's co-worker, then in the same AFTERNOON goes over to his own bestfriend's place gets jerked off and then blows him. Then the school goes under inspection. Thankfully he was told his new name when it was changed in the directory. He was now Ryan Stewart and Finn was Frank Reiter. He was supposedly in the detention center for mass destruction of property. How fitting.
Sighing he was seated at a table playing a game of solitaire wishing he was playing a game of strip poker with Garret in their apartment instead. He was trying to avoid everyone besides Tiger, Rez, and Finn because they were the only ones that knew of the name switch and anyone else knew him as Rorie O'Bannon. Well if someone with the mob happened to be an inspector, that meant they were good as dead. So involved in his own mind game of strip poker in his head with Garret while playing solitaire, he didn't notice someone take a seat across from him.
Fox was bored as hell staying in his own room, trying to avoid people and the nasty looks they passed his way. It wasn't his fucking fault the school hadn't been inspected in several years! He was just one of the few that made the police notice was all. That wasn't a crime. Getting the hell out of his own room, he headed towards the common area, finding it empty except for an emo kid playing solitaire. The guy looked familiar, and not likely to commit murder, so Fox sat down across from him.
"Hey there," he spoke happily. "Rorie, right? You do know that cards are generally more fun with multiple players."
Looking up, Rorie blinked for a moment at Fox as he sat across from him. Seriously!? Seriously!? The one person that he had met one time when he first got here finally shows back up and starts calling him Rorie? Sitting up straighter and looking around almost in a panic to see if there was anyone watching. There were security cameras, but he didn't know if they picked up sound or not. "Sorry, wrong name," he said trying to laugh it off even after his little spazz attack. "Name's Ryan," he said looking at Fox pointedly. Hopefully he wouldn't push the name subject. . . Hopefully.
"Uh yeah I guess, just didn't have anyone to play against," he said shuffling the cards easily, though he was cheating and using his powers to keep them in check and not fly all over the place. "You play?" He asked really hoping that the speed of his words and subject change threw the other off enough to just nod and agree.
Ryan? That didn't sound right. Fox was pretty sure it was Rorie and his face showed it. Still, if the guy wanted a plain-ass name, who was he to argue. "My bad. Ryan." It was obvious he didn't believe the name change, but he'd work with it. For now.
"Well, now you've got a partner. Deal me in." He didn't care what the game was, so long as it was better than War or Go Fish. Fucking ridiculous kid games.
Mentally letting out a breath of relief, Rorie shuffled the cards a few more times before he looked around and found a checker board not being used and all the pieces still there. Grabbing it and taking it over he shoved the red pieces over to Fox and kept the black for himself. Make-shift poker chips. Shuffling one last time he dealt. "Five card draw okay with you?" He asked as he dealt, not really giving the other a choice, but hell it was better than nothing.
Putting the cards between them, he looked his cards over carefully. Shit. The whole hand was a flop. Nothing of the same suit, no numbers together, and only one face card. He could make it work. "How many?" He asked putting down three number cards in hope of a few faces. He got two, a jack and a queen and a nine.
Fox nodded. "Sure I know how to play." You could grow up in bars without learning how to shoot whiskey and play poker. Picking up his cards, he looked at them. Two tens and the rest was crap. Keeping the higher cards, he set down the other three, waiting for Rorie - Ryan - to deal him the rest. As much as he wanted to grimace, he kept his face neutral. Looked like bluffing was the way to go this time.
"Awesome," Rorie said as he situated his cards then gave Fox his three. "Chips are ten each. I'll start by putting in $20," he said putting his two chips in and waited for the other. "So. . ." he said after a moment. "How're you handling the inspection," he asked softly, not enough to whisper, but enough to keep peeping ear from hearing. His usual neutral face, the ol' O'Bannon look, was great in a game of poker. A blank look that borderlined curious even. It worked well in these cases.
Fox's blank look was more of a bored one, showing he didn't really care what happened with the cards. "I'll see your $20 and raise you $10," he spoke, tossing the chips into the middle. Leaning back in his seat, he held the cards casually in his hand, watching the other man. "Fairly well. The only issue I've got is if they realize I'm over 18 and shouldn't be in a juvie facility."
"Same here," Rorie nodded looking at his cards, playing with the worn edges a bit. Of course he had plenty of other issues as well, but he wasn't about to discuss it with the other. Like how he's there under a false name now, the mob could easily find him and Finn there if there was one tiny slip up and they were done. "Seems though, the ones that got in trouble in the city don't think that everyone shouldn't be mad at them," he said adjusting a card slowly. He didn't know Fox was part of it, but he knew Cassie and Emmy were, the fact they were pushing the blame on the school made him mad and Finn had to take away his laptop to keep from screaming at them spilling the beans.
Fox waited for Rorie to either raise or check him, but it seemed he was happy for the moment talking. That suited him fine. It gave him a chance to look for tells. He managed to hold in his surprise. Apparently Rorie hadn't heard that Fox was involved. "And why should it? They were going out for a good time and made a mistake. Were they not part of this school, no one would care. The school had failed to keep up with inspections and the police figured that out. I fail to see how that is the fault of the students."
"Because they didn't think," Rorie said knowing that Fox was watching, carefully. He sat motionless though staring at his cards. "We're part of a detention facility. Even if they had kept up inspections they would have ordered another one. After all, how do you explain three detention inmates getting out, partying and 'having a good time' when they're supposed to be locked up?" Rorie pointed out. "Mistakes have consequences, it's not like one you make on a test and you get docked point, this one's fucking with peoples lives. Besides, the school's under a lot of stress besides the inspections and it won't go away for a very long time," he sighed. "Raise you $20," he chirped, tossing in his chips.
Fox shook his head, chuckling in disbelief. "People have been going out to Danvers and Boston the past six months I've been here. Drinking, partying and doing whatever. The only difference between those and this was that the people hit a fucking tree and got caught. You want to bitch at those three, you need to bitch at everyone else who's put this school in danger by just stepping off the grounds. Glancing again at his hand, though it wasn't needed, Fox tossed in enough chips to match the bet. "Check." No sense in wasting money on a shit hand.
"Believe me, I have," Rorie sighed. He let himself slip, thinking of his brother and Rez. Seeing his brother lying there in the infirmary unmoving and not. . . Finn. His look changed from blank to something akin to tired unhappiness. Showing there was a very good reason he was concerned about the inspections and not just about being found out for what he was, but who he was. "Check," he said. "Two pair," he said laying down his cards and showing off two jacks and two queens plus his nine.
Fox watched the play of emotions across Rorie's face. So there was some reason he was upset for the inspections, and it was more than what everyone else had. Frankie just didn't want to be caught for her wings. He didn't know Rorie's story.
Crinkling his nose, he laid down his cards, showing his pair of tens, high card of eight as well as a five and a two. Sucky hand. "You win."
Rorie wasn't a gloater, well unless it was with friends, and so far Fox wasn't really a friend, just someone to play cards with because fuck it all there was nothing better to do. Collecting his earnings, he stacked them up before collecting the cards and shuffling them. Of course by that time, Rorie had figured out that Fox was either with Cassie and Emmy or he was just sympathetic for them, defending them. "So was it worth it?" He asked, going with his first assumption as he shuffled the cards, keeping his hands busy, hoping to God that Fox doesn't get all cocky like he'd heard from so many people.
Fox watched Rorie shuffle the cards and idly stacked his chips, playing with them one handed while he waited. He knew exactly what the question was referring to, but still he played dumb. "Was what worth it?"
There went the cards. A slight burst of irritation and the small use of his powers made him slip and send the cards flying. Sighing, he closed his eyes for a moment and just kept himself calm. "Don't insult me with the innocent act okay?" He said, nothing malicious in his voice at all. "Either you were with Cassie and Emmy or you're just sympathetic to them because they're hot girls," he said giving him a pointed look.
Fox smirked, loving that little flash of annoyance. For some reason it made him happy. He hadn't really pissed anyone off recently and had forgotten just how much fun it could be when a scorched ass wasn't on the line. "You've seen Cassie and Emmy. Given a chance to have a night out with them, would you say no?" He still didn't really answer the question, but figured Rorie would pick up on it soon enough.
Quirking an eyebrow Rorie gathered up the cards that had stayed on the table, only a few going to the floor. "You have no idea how easy for me it would be to say no," he snorted. So apparently the other wanted to play mind games, wonderful. Good thing he wasn't telepathic himself, he wouldn't be able to help himself in messing with the other, but he was telekinetic. Too showy though, unless he used it right.
Great. Another gay guy in the school. It seemed most every supernatural being Fox had run across seemed to like the cock. Oh well. He wasn't one to judge. "Fine. Any straight male probably would have had an issue," he commented, rolling his eyes.
"Bet I could find one," Rorie said getting on the floor to pick up the other cards. Finn came to mind, maybe even Rez. He knew Finn's type and from what he'd seen of Cassie and Emmy, they were not his brother's usual. "That's still not an excuse though," he huffed sitting back up in his seat putting the cards back together.
Once again, Fox rolled his eyes. Rorie just loved being difficult, didn't he? "Never said it was an excuse. But I do enjoy hanging out with friends. Cassie and Emmy are friends." In his mind that was reason enough.
"So you couldn't have thought of a less destructive way to hang out with friends?" Rorie said as he fixed the cards into a neat little stack before shuffling them again. "Say, I don't know, just hanging out on campus and getting smashed here?"
Fox arched a brow. "If you'll recall, I'd mentioned people going out and partying before. We went out to a few bars. I don't see what the big deal is."
"Yeah I do and if you haven't noticed, there's been a lot more going on than just your partying that's been fucking with the school," Rorie snapped. Seriously? This school was small and it wasn't like anybody kept secrets. He was wondering if anyone at all had seen the way his brother came in or if they realized that Rez had to be brought in tranqed as a hyena.
Fox kept his nose out of other people's business except when it was shoved into his face. The deal with Rorie, Finn and Rez he'd avoided and so didn't know anything about it. "Okay. Your point?"
Letting out a huff, Rorie shook his head. He needed to keep quiet, keep it all contained and it was driving him crazy. There was too much shit going on inside him to hold in all the time and it was making him pissy enough and this just kind of added to it. "Fuck it, never mind," he said standing up before he did or said something stupid.
Fox could tell when someone was on the edge and needed to let loose. He always thought bottling emotions was bad. They ate at you from the inside if you didn't do anything about it. "Oh no, tell me. I want to hear."
"No," Rorie said controlling himself, which was good. Nothing would float and nothing would give away the school. "Right now, you're one of the last people I wanna have a talk about my feelings with," he said giving Fox a look before grabbing his deck of cards.
Fox stayed seated, but he was braced in a way so that he could move quickly if needed. Either to dodge or throw a punch. For some odd reason, he wanted to piss off the other guy. He wanted a fight. Fox was fucking tired of everyone tiptoeing around him and sending dirty glares. "C'mon, Rorie. I might be one of the last, but I'm the only one around."
"Shut the fuck up," he turned, hissing at the other, looking around making sure there wasn't anyone around. "If you know what's good for you, shut. the. fuck. up. now," he growled, something he'd learned from Garret. It was deep and in his chest, something you never would have thought would come from Rorie of all people.
Fox grinned, pouring the proverbial gasoline on the fire. "Whatcha gonna do? Throw the cards at me? There's only so much that can be done with the cameras watching." Just for fun, Fox stood, rolling his shoulders. Rorie may be able to move objects with his mind, but Fox knew how to fight and hit. Right now, he was itching for a fight.
Oh no, oh no, oh no he wasn't. Rorie didn't make a move, though he was wanting to so bad. He held his ground, gritting his teeth. All his bent up anger and frustration and absolute 'fuck every goddamn thing' feeling was balling up in him. "Walk away," he said slowly and carefully.
Fox let the grin spread slow and easy, a challenge. "Why? Worried they'll catch us?" He shrugged, not at all concerned. "It's a detention facility. They'll expect a fight or two. And you're dying to throw a punch. I can tell." Chuckling, Fox waited, baiting him. "I'm waiting, Rorie."
Garret had been kind enough to show Rorie a few defensive moves and offensive moves if the need should arise. He was far from a karate master and only knew how to hit, kick, and block basics. Though, coupled with a little 'oomph' from his powers, he could pack quiet a punch. "My name's Ryan," he said gritting his teeth and clenching his fists, knuckles going white.
Chuckling, Fox shrugged. "Fine. Rorie, Ryan. Close enough I could get them confused. You understand of course." He was having so much fun pushing buttons. He wondered just how long it would take to break him.
He kept saying his fucking name! What if someone walked in right then? What if they heard? What if they worked for the mob? He and Finn were dead then. Fine, Fox wanted a fight, he was going to get one. By nature and through years of practice, Rorie and Finn were brawlers. If you were Irish in a pub in Dublin, at some point you would end up beating some guy's ass because there was something or other. Now was very similar. Making to walk past Fox, Rorie snarled as he grabbed him by the shoulder and just went to town, slamming his fist hard into his stomach over and over again. He cheated a bit, using his power to up the force behind it.
Fox was expecting a move, but not one quite like what Rorie gave, and the force behind it was surprising. It took a couple hits for the winded angel to realize what was going on. Straightening slightly, he turned his body so Rorie's hand grazed his stomach and quickly brought his elbow up to the other man's jaw.
Stumbling back a bit, Rorie just went for it. Lip bleeding from the hit, he just tackled Fox down. His fist started swinging against the other, trying to hit anywhere he could. His face, chest, arms. Anything he could reach while sitting on the other's stomach, cheating and using his power to pin him while he just beat on him.
Fox wasn't one to be pinned easily. Rorie may have managed to get him down through foul means, but he wasn't about to bottom. Shifting his hips, Fox rolled them to the side, pressing his forearm against Rorie's throat and using his chest to pin his arms. The guy couldn't get much leverage to hit that way. Still, Fox could. Using his free hand, he pulled back and thrust a solid punch to Rorie's stomach.
Charlie got an emergency call from a member of his team who was manning the security camera control room, saying that a fight had broken out in one of the common rooms. Immediately, Charlie was off and running. When he arrived, he saw Fox on top of Rorie. Charlie rushed to the pair of them, his arms wrapping around Fox to pull him off roughly. Fox was a hair taller than Charlie, but Charlie had vampire strength on his side, so it was fairly easy to drag him away. "ENOUGH!" he bellowed, holding Fox.
Rorie struggled, growling, but the blow to his stomach pulling the trigger as he felt his chest tighten. Fuck, fuck, fuck! Reaching up he started to wheeze, clawing at the arm on his throat. "Can't. Breath," he choked out starting to panic when Fox was letting up. Then Charlie came in. Fox was off him, but he still couldn't breath. Gasping for air, he laid there for a moment shaking as he felt his muscles start to get tired fast and his chest ache. Where the fuck was his inhaler!? Slowly he rolled onto his side and found it just under the table. Pushing himself hard he reached for it, his head getting lighter. Fucking Fox.
Fox's intention was to pin Rorie without causing much damage to either of them. As it was, he was winded, felt like he had a bruised rib, split lip and a sore nose. Not broken, thankfully. He let Charlie pull him off without much of a fight, standing there while Rorie wheezed. He hadn't hit him that hard, did he? The angel didn't know about the asthma, but as Rorie reached for his inhaler it became obvious. "Fuck," he groaned, struggling against Charlie so he could reach the inhaler and give it to Rorie.
When Charlie realized that Rorie was in bad shape and that Fox wasn't going to lunge at the kid again, he let Fox go. "Do I need to call a healer?" he asked, looking at Rorie with concern. Charlie's knowledge of first aid was more about patching up cuts, fixing dislocated joints, and creating splints. He wasn't capable of helping someone through an asthma attack.
Taking the inhaler from Fox, Rorie quickly took two puffs and held his breath before he felt his chest start to settle. The tightness was leaving and he took another two puffs since it was taking too long to fully get his breath back. "Fuckin' hell," he murmured as he pushed himself onto his knees, resting and not pushing himself. "No," he shook his head closing his eyes a moment. "Just. . . Need to get my breath back," he explain as he let out a breath, his limbs visibly shaking from the lack of oxygen they'd been getting in the struggle.
Fox stayed on his knees near Rorie, just out of arm's length in case another fist came flying his way. He hadn't expected a reaction like this, but neither would he apologize for it. The fight had been coming, and Rorie knew himself well enough that he could have walked away if he wanted. Instead he threw the first punch. That raised him a bit in Fox's opinion. Smiling a bit, still slightly winded, Fox chuckled, "You hit hard for a little guy."
Charlie rolled his eyes at the two idiots before him, crossing his arms across his chest as he did so. "Are you two done trying to murder each other? Because I've got better shit to do than babysit." Fights happened, and Charlie knew that. How many times had he gotten in fist fights with his brother and friends over stupid shit? Too many to count! Guys were just built that way. They got mad, they hit things.
"Yeah," Rorie nodded looking up at Charlie. He'd never met the guy before, just from the uniform knew he was security. He'd ask Garret later if he remembered to. "Eh, I cheated," he said looking at Fox, defused for now. "Used my power on you," he chuckled then winced holding his side. "Just stop fuckin' calling me Rorie, my name's Ryan," he said, hoping that would get it across. If Charlie was on security then he knew about the name change in case the inspectors asked and if anyone came snooping around.
Fox chuckled, nodding. "Yeah, alright. Ryan. Got it." He tossed a glance over at Charlie, knowing that he had seriously pissed off the vampire earlier. A lecture, if not a beating, was coming, of that much Fox was sure. He just didn't know when. "I think we're good, Charlie." Fox even flashed a little smile to be cute.
Charlie often felt like he was looking after toddlers in this place. He also wasn't too fond of Rorie or his brother. They'd brought a LOT of baggage with them, but as Hope pointed out, so had Charlie. At least his baggage was dead and buried now. Hopefully, the changed names and two recent murders would eliminate future problems for the O'Bannon brothers as well. "Good," he said flatly. The guys had thrown punches and calmed down. Maybe now they could go their separate ways to cool off. But the smile from Fox really irked Charlie. "I'm not done with you," he warned.
Rorie may not have been a mind reader, but he knew that Charlie was pissed. Just the look on his face at Fox's smile told him they were done whether they really were or not. After a moment, Rorie stood, a bit shaky, but was fine otherwise. "I'm going to my room," he sighed nursing a sore side and a busted lip. It was better to finish out the day there than it would be wandering around. It was early afternoon so he could wait out the inspectors there.
Fox shrugged and got to his feet. "I figured," he told Charlie. He'd upset the vampire for sure, but he wasn't sure if it was because he was out with Cassie while dating Frankie, or because he got arrested along with the women, or if it was because of the inspection. He still stood by what he told Rorie. It's was the school's damned fault for not keeping up with that shit. Still, he wasn't looking forward to a tongue lashing from a vampire. "I think I'm gonna hang out here for awhile."
"You should go to the infirmary to be on the safe side," Charlie suggested. It wasn't an order, just a recommendation. He didn't want to worry about Rorie. "You might have a cracked rib. Go get it checked out." As for Fox, Charlie was pissed at him for all of the above reasons. "Fox, you and I will talk later. I expect you in my office at seven tonight. Do not be late."
Instead of fighting, cause that would have made things more aggravating, Rorie nodded. "Kay," he said moving to go, but stopped. "Uh. . . Do I have to have an escort since the inspectors are still here?" He asked scrunching up his face. Great, that would be a hoot. If he had to have one he'd rather have Charlie, he wouldn't have to talk then.
Inwardly, Fox was not excited about his upcoming conversation. But it wouldn't do to show that. "Sure thing. Anything in particular I need to know about it?" Okay, yeah, he was being a smartass and it was probably getting him further in trouble, but it was Fox.
Charlie shot Fox a glare at his cheeky reply. "Just fucking be on time," he growled, "Now get your ass back to your room." He was done dealing with Fox right now. Rorie needed to get to the infirmary, and he was right, he needed an escort. "Come on, Ryan, I'll take you."
Rorie was secretly hoping Charlie would just punch Fox in the face now. Even when he wasn't being a cheeky ass to Rorie, he was to someone else and it was still annoying. While he and Charlie were having their little conversation, he looked down and quickly untied them and retied them together. It was quick and out of anyone's eyesight. Subtle enough that Fox wouldn't even know till he went walk and. . . Oops? "Kay," he nodded to Charlie when he mentioned him, ready to follow, hoping they'd get to witness or at least hear Fox's fall.
Rorie was secretly hoping Charlie would just punch Fox in the face now. Even when he wasn't being a cheeky ass to Rorie, he was to someone else and it was still annoying. While he and Charlie were having their little conversation, he looked down and quickly untied Fox's boots and retied them together. It was quick and out of anyone's eyesight. Subtle enough that Fox wouldn't even know till he went walk and. . . Oops? "Kay," he nodded to Charlie when he mentioned him, ready to follow, hoping they'd get to witness or at least hear Fox's fall.*
Fox knew he was digging himself a deep hole with Charlie, and while part of him regretted going that to a friend, he just couldn't keep his mouth shut. "Yessir." He waited until the two had left before taking a deep breath, feeling out the injuries. Nothing broken. Only surface damage. That was fine. He took a step forward and promptly tripped, landing against the back of the sofa. "SonofaBITCH!" Glancing down, still cursing, he untied his laces, wondering how he'd get back at Rorie.
Charlie motioned to the hall for Rorie to start walking. They were only a few yards away when he heard Fox swear, and Charlie quickly looked over at Rorie. "What'd you do?" he asked accusingly.
He couldn't help himself, snickering with a dirty smirk. "Tied his laces together," he said with a shrug as he walked with Charlie keeping his gaze forward. When he wanted to be on purpose, Rorie was a dirty bastard capable of dirty tricks. . . Which wasn't very often, but Fox kind of had it coming to him.
Fox managed to fix his boot laces then stalked out to the hallway, glaring at Rorie's back before heading down the opposite direction to his room for the inspection. Fucking cheeky bastard. But while he was pissed, some part of him was applauding Rorie for his ingenuity.
Charlie sighed and rubbed his face. He was exhausted. This week had been draining, and he couldn't fucking wait for the inspectors to leave so he could get some rest. "I'll let it slip this time, since he's been a dick lately.. but don't pull that shit again."
"Kay," Rorie nodded letting the smirk slide away. It was time to just go to the infirmary rather than push his luck. He wasn't counting on Garret being on security to get him any favors, so he let it be. He'd gotten his punches in and blew off a lot of steam, so he was good. Letting it go, he walked next to Charlie the rest of the way in silence.
