Finn got a laugh form the texts. It would probably be the last for a while as he thought back to why he was in this predicament in the first place. Slowly his smile faded, the fun texts deleted, and the severity of the situation came to light. He’d hurt his brother. He’d hurt him in every single way possible and it seemed he couldn’t help it or stop it. No matter how good his intentions were they would be flipped and soon he’d be making Rorie cry again, begging him to stop.
Shaky hands pulled his wallet out, slipping the picture from behind ruined plastic. That same black and white picture that he had kept in his drawer for so long. Kept it safe and sound almost perfect condition. Why couldn’t he do that for his little brother? The real McCoy? It was almost like he was incapable of doing it after he took off the ‘Big Brother’ name tag. Like he quit the job, but was begged back and now he couldn’t do anything right. It didn’t feel right or ever come out naturally like it used to. It was so hard.
Staring down at the picture he couldn’t help but feel the prick of those damned tears. Why couldn’t he have just let it go? Just let him be with Garret and let him be happy? ‘Because he’d leave you eventually. Just like Mommy did.’ A soft voice said in his head. It wasn’t anyone walking by, it was just his own inner voice. He barely remembered his mother, he was 4 when she left, Rorie was barely a year old. Left on the church steps in Boston. He didn’t even know the church, didn’t know that a family was waiting for them already. All he remembered was a soft pale face with flaming red hair in spiraling curls.
“Stupid bitch,” he cursed, tears ruining his vision of a happier time with his beloved brother. He was so wrapped up in himself, he didn’t even hear the door open, his face buried in a hand as his shoulders shook sobbing softly.
