Who: Katie
What: Waking up alone in the apartment
Where: Nox's off campus apartment.
When: Saturday night, late
Katie jerked awake suddenly and then froze. She didn't recognize the bed she was laying in and it sent shivers of fear through her body. She sat up slowly trying to see in through the dark shadows that filled the room. Slowly the memories came back to her. She was in the spare bedroom in her father's apartment. What time was it? she couldn't tell by the lack of light coming in the window but she would have to say it was very late. Which made her wonder what woke her up. She got up and very quietly, so as not to disturb Nox, opened the bedroom door. She saw that there was a light on in the living and headed toward it.
Once she arrived in the living room she stopped, suddenly realizing that the apartment was empty. She vaguely remembered the sound of a door opening and closing hurriedly. That must have been what woke her up. She looked around the living room, panic beginning to grow in her. Where would he have gone so late? Did he not want to be around when she woke up? Her eyes fell on a small piece of paper laying on the table, folded in half with her name scrawled on the front. She picked the paper up and read the hastily written note. Setting the paper back down she sighed in relief. Nox had been called away for something at his work. She couldn't help but wonder who, or what would call someone out of their home so late. However she was reassured that he would come back.
Now that she was awake she couldn't see going back to sleep, so she tried to figure out what she could do that wouldn't be intrusive. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted her art supplies still sitting where she had placed them earlier. Yes! She could so some sketching, that always made her smile. She loved art and she loved creating her pictures almost as much as she enjoyed working in her garden. Gathering her sketch book and her pencils she settled herself on the sofa near the lamp. Katie tucked one leg under her, and with her foot resting on the sofa she bent the other leg slightly, so she could rest her sketchpad on it. Once she was settled comfortably, leaning back against the arm of the sofa, she began drawing with simple fluid lines adding slight details to indicate brickwork. Then she moved onto adding the basics for the flowers and one tree that she used to sit under back at home. She worked quickly, but even still a couple hours slipped by as she started to add colors to the drawing. Surprisingly she began to feel tired again as she worked. As she sat there the pastel pencil she was using slipped out of her fingers and hit the floor lightly, and she dozed back off to sleep.
