Percy dried the last of the dishes from dinner and looked around the small kitchen to make sure he hadn't missed a spot or a stray cup. Everything looked in perfect order and he smiled to himself. This was the time of day he enjoyed most. This was when he could relax and read, or do some writing, or just sit and enjoy a glass of wine and listen to music.
His small flat was quiet and tidy; Poirot, the small orange and white stripped kitten he'd found abandoned on the stoop, was curled up on top of his favorite chair cleaning his paws. Music was playing softly from the wireless. He'd found out that if he placed it in the Northwest corner under the window he could pick up a Muggle Jazz station, and Ella Fitzgerald was crooning softly in the background.
Percy poured himself a glass of red wine, scratched Poirot behind the ears, and headed into the living room. He had a fire going already, and headed to the bookshelf to find a book to read. He settled on And Then There Were None, one of the few Agatha Christie novels he hadn't read yet. He'd just picked it up in a used Muggle bookshop, and the pages were slightly tattered and the cover folded down.
He didn't mind though. Books were the only items he didn't mind to be worn and ragged. Books like that had character and history, and Percy enjoyed imagining the previous owners had enjoyed them and wished to pass along their enjoyment to others. It was a nice thought to have as he curled up in the chair by the fire and began to read.
