Florean Fortesque's Ice Cream Shoppe Returns |
[Sat May 30, 2009 at 11:29am] |
Who: OPEN TO ALL CHARACTERS When: May 30th, 2003, in the Afternoon Where: Diagon Alley What: It's the grand re-opening of Florean Fortesque's Ice Cream Shoppe Rating: TBD
Francesca Fortesque was a fighter. Perhaps not in the traditional sense, but she had a good handle on how to come back from heartache and drama. During the Second War, her father, the well-known and well-loved Florean Fortesque, was taken from his shop in Diagon Alley in broad daylight and never heard from again. It was harder, in Francesca's opinion, to not know what happened to him. She could only assume the worst. It had been six years since his disappearance, so obviously, he wasn't going to reappear miraculously at this point. Her mother had not been able to handle the news, and Francesca was absolutely certain that she'd died of a broken heart three years ago, regardless of what the healers said.
Now that she was alone, Francesca had two choices as she saw it: she could wallow in self-pity and waste away or she could take the family tragedy and use it to inspire her to come back stronger than ever. She chose the latter. The obvious thing that would spit in the eye of those who had tried to destroy Florean Fortesque and all the goodness he stood for would be to reopen the ice cream shop in Diagon Alley. The shop still belonged to the family, and with a few donations and loans - and lots of community encouragement - Florean Fortesque's Ice Cream Shoppe was fully restored and ready for business. And was there a better time for ice cream than a bright, sunny day at the time when spring rolled into summer?
Allison Waffles seemed to be a big hit with the families, Francesca noticed as she scooped some Sundae Surprise (which changed flavors depending a person's mood) into a cone for a customer. The crowd was sizable, and Francesca had noticed more than a few well-known wizards and witches mingling with the commoners. Rumor had it that the Minister of Magic might stop in as well! Francesca couldn't have been prouder. She only wished her father were here to see it.
