Stifling a yawn, Padma stretched and then bent back over her book. She'd been up most of the night fretting about Eli and his feeding problems. All the baby books, and she'd read practically every one published, noted there were a number of reasons for fussiness, but like everything about being a parent there wasn't one magical solution. Babies need to come with a manual, she thought sleepily, resting her head on her folded arms with a sigh. She loved the twins, she really did, but she'd never imagined parenthood would be so hard. Nor that she would feel guilty about working and not being with her children every moment of the day.
Ten minutes later, Padma woke up abruptly and blushed when she realised she'd just fallen asleep in the middle of a cafe - albeit at a table near the back. Rubbing her eyes and yawning, she closed her book and picked up her bag. Maybe another cup of tea would help perk her up. However, when her hand couldn't find her purse, Padma was soon wide awake. Alarm rising, she dumped the contents of her bag on the table, frantically searching for what had been a very plump purse. Her make-up bag, comb, two more books, a pack of tissues, a scarf, a notepad, several quills, a pencil and a pottle of ink sprawled across the table but no purse.
Swearing under her breath, Padma swept the items back in her bag and got down on her hands and knees to look under the table. Hopefully the purse had just fallen out, and she had not slept while some bastard robbed her! Finding nothing under her table, she expanded her search, only to bump into a pair of legs. "Sorry!"
