Aoife almost snorted at Everil's insistence that 'it was worth a try'. Most people would have approached the situation with far more hesitance and caution. But what could you expect from a beguiler? They all felt the world and the people in it bent to their charms.
Well, Aoife had been fooled once. Never again.
"I hope you satisfy whatever business you have here." And move on. Aoife didn't wait for a response, already turning away as she concluded the conversation with a terse, "Goodbye, Everil."
Inside Aoife's emotions were a jumble. She was so thrown off, she didn't notice anything had been slipped into her basket until she got back to the shop. She stared at the small bundle of flowers for a long moment before tossing them into the chandlery fires. That part of her life was over and she had no intention of going back there, ever again.
With renewed determination, Aoife forced her mind to the work at hand and refused to give Everil's unexpected reappearance another thought.
