Portia realized almost immediately that she had not only startled Hiram but that he had assumed that her presence meant that there was something wrong. She blushed slightly at the presumption, wondering if she had unwittingly approached him with an unnecessary sense of urgency.
"Oh, everything is fine, I just wasn't sure if I was interrupting you or something," Portia explained, clutching the parcel to her chest. "It isn't very important so if it isn't a good time, I can come back." Portia was getting over some of her shyness but when he looked at her so nervously it made her hesitate.
