LA, CA, USA: Olympus High School
Story/Plot: Reincarnates
Who: Alexia and Steph
What: 2nd Period - AP US Government and Politics
Where: Olympus High School
When: Monday, August 30th
Why: Ms. Doe expects better from Ms. Morelli
To be completely honest, Alexia knew fuck all about teaching. She never had to teach her soldiers how to fight wars, only guide them through the battles. She never had to teach her clients the basis of their legal claims, only advise them on the best course of action for their cases. But Zeus had insisted that being the Goddess of Wisdom was plenty enough to know what to do with a classroom of high school students. At least her subject was a familiar one to her. And, hopefully, she would influence these teenagers to leave the halls of this school as well-informed citizens.
Since the first day of school had been on a Wednesday ('Honestly, whose idea was that?'), her first lesson was a round of easy get-to-know-you exercises for her classes. On Thursday, she handed out the syllabus and had her AP class read through the U.S. Constitution, followed by a discussion of the document and the meaning of democracy on Friday.
"Alright guys," Ms. Doe announced as the late bell rang and the passing period chatter died down. "Let's do a quick roll call, and then we have a quick vocabulary quiz for Chapter One before we get on with today's lesson."
One by one, she went down the last-name alphabetical roster of students for her second period class, marking off those who were present and absent. "Stephanie Morelli." she called out.
No response.
Alexia glanced up from her roster to take note of the empty seat the student had previously claimed the week before. She was familiar with the student, in a couple of different ways. At this school, Stephanie Morelli was the second ranked senior with a perfect GPA and a spotless record, but a reputably questionable attitude towards her fellow students. Back in Alexia's law office, however, her name had come up a time or two in confidential files for cases where Alexia represented some misplaced, drug-addled youths. Additionally, Stephanie's presence here at Olympus High School could only mean she was a reincarnation of someone Alexia probably knew in another life, though she did not know who that was just yet.
Either way, the girl was obviously missing from the body of students. As Alexia was about to mark her absent, the door to her classroom swung open and, speak of the devil, there Stephanie Morelli stood. "Nice of you to join us, Ms. Morelli." Alexia greeted curtly as she moved her hand to mark the student tardy instead. She motioned for Stephanie to take her seat before continuing to take attendance.
"Okay, so this quiz is pretty short. It should only take you guys about ten minutes. After that, we'll start learning about the Origins of the American Republic." She announced as she handed out the single sheets of paper.
The class period went by smoothly, with some healthy discussion about the founding fathers and a short leeway into a bit about a currently massively popular historical Broadway musical. The bell rang, signaling the end of the period, and Alexia watched as her students shuffled their things and made their way out.
"Ms. Morelli," Alexia called out as the girl stood to leave. "A word." She waited until the remainder of the class had filed out, and since third period was her free period, no new students were making their way in, leaving the two alone. "I'll write you a note for your third period teacher. But seeing as you lacked one for my class today, I hope I can correctly assume unexcused tardiness will not become a habit from you."
