"Annie..."
A soft voice echoing through the halls that makes Annie turn, brown hair flying in her face briefly and obstructing her vision. "Hello? Is anyone there?"
Nothing. Just silence. With a few cautious steps, and she turns the corner. It's always the same dream, every night. Or at least every night since she'd gotten Ariadne. It was getting harder and harder for her to remember what she dreamed before that now.
It felt like she'd been walking forever. Through an endless maze of hallways and white walls, there was no end to this. Infinite. She felt like she'd lost something, she'd been feeling like she lost something. Or was she looking for something? What was it? She couldn't remember. It was just out of reach of her finger tips. She couldn't reach. Couldn't...
Stairs. She'd never found these before. A small part of her was urging her to stick to what was familiar, but Annie had never been one to shy away from the unknown. She climbed. The stair case moved under her feet fast, almost faster then her legs could carry her. She was almost dizzy, the constant blur of white nearly nauseating.
In the far distance, her ear's picked up the sound of a small cry echoing through space. A child? She didn't stop, in fact she only started climbing the stairs faster. Her pace quickening and her breath suddenly ragged as the stair case became a winding one and she started taking steps two at a time.
"Stop." The forcefulness of her own voice broke into her thoughts so abruptly that she teetered precariously on the edge of where she'd come to such a sudden stop.
Edge? Annie frowned in confusion. She hadn't seen an edge. Then she looked down and immediately took a few steps back, gaping down at the black space below. Her epiphany.
Paradox.
