Oh God. He'd just pulled a Doctor. Unintentionally, albeit, but he'd just created another Amy Pond. He'd just seriously altered the course of someone's life. Lin had always recognized himself as a meddler. He had the best intentions and the worst instincts with people, and having the Doctor as a reincarnate only made it worse. They fed on each others' flaws and found new and exciting ways to set (and then dash) expectations. He'd never felt like he'd done genuine harm before, though. Not until today. After saying goodbye to the eight-year-old Kai, Lin turned the TARDIS around and headed straight back for 2011 London. He didn't know what he planned to do, and he knew he was being irrational, but he couldn't stop himself from worrying. In spite of the fact that the timeline had already played itself out and that Kai seemed perfectly normal and emotionally healthy, Lin felt an overriding need to check. It was the sad child face. He was a sucker for children. The TARDIS blinked into existence on a corner just down from Kai's flat. Lin walked the rest of the way. It gave him a chance to gather his thoughts and, honestly, a police box was slightly less conspicuous in an alleyway than in a hallway. Perhaps only slightly, but. He'd take what he could get. Lin was aware that it was late, but he hadn't realized it was well past any sane hour until he'd already knocked. Then he checked his watch. Oops. |
