Senator Peter Cho was starting to twitch. Or he would have been, if he hadn't spent years cultivating a calm and confident facade no matter what was going on in his mind. Still, every new motion, every interruption, every long-winded speech, and every smug smile from certain junior senators made him wish he could tear apart the senate chambers the way his counterpart had once done to the Galactic Senate.
The fact was that despite all the talk about ending divisiveness and working together, tensions in the senate were if anything worse than usual. The hostility flowing across the aisle, in both directions, was truly remarkable for anyone who could sense such things. It was as if the Emperor was feeding on the anger and hate. Peter could feel the headache pressing in on his temples that meant he was loosing control again. He would completely lose his grip soon, unless he found some outlet.
When the session ended at last he returned to his office, and on his way he found the perfect opportunity. One of Senator Song's junior staffers stood waiting for the elevator with him, looking scared, awkward, intimidated and yet ready for an argument in that way only young people new to the hill could manage. Senator Cho smiled pleasantly and nodded to him. When the elevator arrived a quick burst of lightning from his fingertips shorted out the security camera. Then, as the elevator doors closed, so did the young woman's airway. Her eyes bulged and she clutched vainly at her neck, as if she could somehow pry loose the invisible fingers of the Force choking her life away.
He savored the fear and panic emanating from her and the wonderful sense of power that he so rarely got to indulge in. She choked and sputtered, kicking her feet as she was lifted into the air. He kept going until the last possible moment. As the elevator stopped he released his hold on her, letting her limp body collapse in an undignified heap on the floor. The doors slid open and Cho strode out. He was feeling much better now. He even whistled a cheery little tune to himself as he walked down the hall to his office.
