Sara had made plans with Caroline for later in the day to go visit one of their old childhood hang out spots for Christmas Eve. It still all seemed so surreal. Not only were Caroline's memories back, but she was back. And as much as Sara had wanted this more then she'd ever wanted anything in the past couple months, now that it had happened, part of her didn't know what to do with it now. Neither of them had changed, but it was the fact that Sara hadn't changed that was the problem. She was still waist deep in the same sort of shit that had gotten Caroline nearly killed in the first place. Twice. And Sara was willing to stake her life on it that her sister had gotten shot in the head because of her. Well, she just couldn't live with that.
There were some things she had to take care of tonight, before she gave into some family time later on in the afternoon. She'd been slacking on the job while she'd been wrapped up in getting her sister back to normal. Now that the worst seemed to be over and all her attention wasn't required else where, Sara was doing Leo a favor and getting some information off a certain employee's hard drive in the Camelot New York office. Not exactly the hardest job she'd ever done, this would definitely be a piece of cake.
It was 1:30 in the morning when she arrived at the site. She broke in easily, and successfully navigated her way through the bitch black building to her destination. She knew the lay out by heart. She was in there for a grand total of ten minutes, that was all it took to disable the alarms and surveillance, swipe hard drives and book it without being seen. Or so she thought. She was outside and half way down the street, pulling her coat tighter around her in an attempt to keep out the cold when she heard the unmistakable sound of a gun being cocked.
"Natalie West."
Sara's heart sank. She didn't even have to turn around to know who it was, that voice had been haunting her dreams for a couple years now. She'd gotten careless. In the name of saving her sister and getting her memories back Sara had all but forgotten about being careful and protecting her identity first. She'd forgotten all about surviving, of the reason she'd gone into hiding in the first place all those years ago. They'd finally found her. Even now she couldn't find it in her to be sorry though, she would have risked a lot more for Caroline. But apparently this had been enough.
The man spoke again. "Turn around, please."
She did as she was instructed, having no other choice since her gun was out of reach inside her coat and it would have been more then a little obvious if she'd reached for it now. It was him and two others, standing on either side of him and looking at her with a coldness that made her shiver more then the freezing New York air. "Don't suppose we can just call it a draw. I took your hand, you had my sister shot in the head. I'd say we're about even." She tried to smile, but she couldn't. There was no way she was escaping a second time.
"Funny. I'll send your sister your regards, Sara." Three shots were fired, all in the chest. There was one moment of lucid consciousness where Sara knew she'd been shot, and then darkness. She was dead before she hit the ground.
