Who: Sam Victorio (with cameo appearance by Peter Reed)
What: Waiting
When: Friday
Where: Prison, somewhere in California

The first weeks were hard. Max was panicking and Sam was pissed. She knew though, even then, that she had to wait. There was nothing for her on the outside that couldn't wait. A few weeks could make all the difference. Time passed. Manticore didn't come for her, no one noticed that she was anything special, Max calmed down. Sam was still angry, but she hid it away, stored it up for a time when it would be useful. She settled into a routine. Max had done this before, only this time there was no training, no brainwashing, no torture, no breeding partner. There was just waiting. Waiting to be shuffled from one facility to another, waiting for her pretty-boy lawyer to file petitions and transfers, to enter a plea, waiting for everyone to forget that she was supposed to be dangerous.

It didn't take long. Not as long as she had expected and not nearly as long is it would have been if the Agency had stayed in charge. The reincarnates were held separately, but the guards either didn't all know what they were dealing with, or they didn't all believe it. She took note of which ones underestimated her. She made mental notes of routines, shifts, and schedules. It wouldn't have been so hard to break away during a transfer, or find some way to bypass a lock. That was small though. She needed to go bigger. These people in here with her, the rest of what had been CORE, they'd been caught in the same shitstorm she had been, they'd been subject to the same unfair treatment. They were her family, and she as taking them with her. She just had to wait for the right opportunity.

Then Josia contacted her. Josia the spy, too smart for his own good, couldn't be trusted, brilliant, wonderful Josia. Her new best friend. She was going to have help, and she was almost done waiting. Walking into the small visitation room, Sam greeted her lawyer with a sweet, dazzling smile. "Hey there. You know, I'm going to miss seeing you when this is all over." She slid gracefully into the little metal chair. "I think it's time to stop messing around. I don't need to answer their questions. I should just plead guilty. You've done enough. Everyone has done enough." She held his gaze. "Tell Josia that it should all be over soon. By next Friday night. I hope he's ready to move on."
