Who: Elliot Peabody, Rebecca Rice
When: Thursday, June 3
Where: Prison!
What: Elliot has a visitor.

In the wake of the homebrew crossbow incident, life had become exponentially less comfortable for Elliot. Any and all privileges had been taken away, which made the sudden appearance of guards outside his cell a troubling event and not a hopeful one. Elliot cooperated as they led him down the hall, fully expecting to find himself faced with some new punishment or restriction. Instead? His lawyer had, at some point since they'd last talked, managed to get Elliot's visitor rights reinstated.

The coveralls and cuffs were hardly of the same quality as the slacks and shirt he was wearing the last time Rebecca saw him, but Elliot was still clearly Elliot. The 'I know something' smirk and casual air was with him as he sat down in the chair and reached out to grab the telephone that would allow him to communicate with the woman on the other side of the glass.

"Well, this is a surprise."

Rebecca gave an answering smirk as she picked up the phone on her side, resting her elbows on the counter-top.

"You didn't think I'd forgotten about you, did you Elliot?" she asked, arching an eyebrow. "After our little heart-to-heart? I'm crushed!"

"Forgotten? No. But prison." Elliot inhaled and let the air out in an abrupt chuckle. "The taint of the criminal, even if they can't seem to get around to their show trial and conviction. Are you sure you want to associate with villains like me?"

Unrepentant villains, too, if his amused tone was any indication. "Nonetheless, I'm glad to see you/"

"Baby, have you met me?" she asked, shading her eyes a little as they clicked from blue, to black, and back again in the space of a blink. "Love the sinner. Hate the sin."

Though, if the eyes didn't give her away, the tone of her voice said that she wasn't exactly an angel herself. "I'm glad to see you too, even if I might have wished for it under better circumstances. I couldn't let you languish in her without letting you know that somebody was thinking of you."

"Apparently not." The eye trick did not cause Elliot to panic. He didn't even flinch, although in the aftermath he was left with a perplexed look on his face. He leaned forward on his left elbow towards the window, frowning ever so slightly. Hmm. "Must've miscalculated. That's interesting."

Elliot let out another chuckle and lifted his shoulders in a shrug. Who was he to talk? He had the quintessential split personality in his head. "I appreciate not being left to languish. The DA apparently can't be bothered to bring me to trial. He sure does know how to make a man feel special."

She could appreciate his dearth of panic, though his puzzled frown did make her smile just a bit more capriciously. She had worked rather hard to keep her activities between CORE and Camelot as discrete as possible, so maybe not everyone knew who her other half was, either. At least he was laughing.

"I'm sure he's a very busy man," she said, "But I can only imagine how the time must drag on for you. Are you...hm." She eyed his cuffs. "Not too uncomfortable, I hope?" Not that she'd be able to get much inside to him, anyway.

"Oh no, they're not tormenting me. They're missing an opportunity, honestly." Elliot smiled. Whether this was at Rebecca's concern or the foolishness of the Agency guards was anyone's guess, but his attention never wavered from the woman across from him. "You know, when I was young my grandmother used to go on and on about 'consequences.' 'Do unto your neighbor' at first and then 'if a man cause a blemish in his neighbor; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him.' Unhelpful, unscientific thinking. Preaching 'an eye for an eye' as a deterrent? A kid hears that and he doesn't hear a warning; he hears an invitation."

He paused. "Small town thinking. Is it any wonder that the jails are full?"

"Tell me about it," she said, shaking her head. "I grew up in a small town, and my mother was always after me not to repeat her mistakes. 'Do as I say, not as I do.'" She laughed. "All that really told me was not to get caught." Though her mother had probably meant 'Don't get yourself knocked up,' so far, Rebecca had managed not to do either.

"You'd think a small town would teach better values, but I guess nobody ever realized that restrictions just mean people are going to try that much harder to get around them." She sighed. "You really don't know how much longer you'll be stuck here before they even give you a trial? That just seems like a waste of tax money."

"The trial date is in two weeks, but I'm not optimistic. It's already been pushed back twice." Elliot lifted his shoulders in a casual shrug. "No one ever accused a government of being frugal with taxpayer money. Frugality. Another small-town value ignored." Well. At least prison hadn't robbed the mad scientist of his sense of humor?

"How are things on the outside, now that Dorothy's poured her bucket of water over the Wicked Witch? Smug, I'd imagine."

Rebecca smiled. Ever intriguing, this mad scientist and his sense of humor. She nodded.

"They had their moment and things are slowly settling back into the doldrums," she said, "Though there's been a recent stir with places like Gotham City materializing in the middle of nowhere, Jersey." To say nothing of personal drama, such as meeting the man who might very well be her father. But she wasn't quite ready to talk about that. "Curiouser and curiouser."
