Who: Barbara Walker and Brad Butler What: Barbara and Brad decide to spend the night staking out outside of Kyle and Ainsley's. When: Sunday night, October 17 2010 Where: Parked outside Kyle and Ainsley's place, New Jersey Warnings: Lots of awkward and Barbara's mouth? The usual.
It was already well past night fall and the street was quiet. There was nothing about the neighborhood that seemed out of place, unless you were counting the unmarked cop car parked inconspicuously down the street from a modestly sized Penthouse in the middle of New Jersey, about thirty minutes from Gotham. It had been parked there for the last hour, and there was no sign of it moving any time soon.
Things were a mess. After everything that had happened during and in the aftermath of the alternate reality jumble, Barbara had been more then a little on edge. It didn't matter how 'real' the memories of that reality were or not, it didn't matter how many times people told themselves it 'didn't actually happen'. The memories were still as fresh as any memories were, especially for Barbara. Kyle's death, being married and having a kid with Brad. Sufficed to say, once the world had righted itself working with Brad had been more then a little awkward. Jen had left because of her own alternate reality hang ups, and no one had heard from her since. It had only been a week and already you could feel the strain on the JL in light of a missing member. And now? Ainsley thought she was being followed. Barbara was more or less at her wits end.
The only thing that was keeping her from actually losing it was the immediate action she'd taken. Fox's friend 'Nancy' had come to see her at Gotham City Police Department just as Fox had promised and she'd accepted Barbara's job offer. For Barbara's part, she and Brad had committed themselves to staking out at Kyle and Ainsley's place to appease their own worries. Barbara had never been more grateful to be a cop. She just hoped Batman wouldn't notice them watching the place; Kyle might not but leave it to Bruce Wayne to be that paranoid. Ainsley didn't want Kyle to know just yet so Barbara and Brad were attempting to keep as low of a profile about this as they could, until they couldn't anymore.
"Shit," Barbara muttered, shifting impatiently in the passenger seat and avoiding eye contact with Brad as she propped her legs up on the dashboard and leaned against the door, propping her head up in her hand. It was easier to spend her time worrying about Ainsley then it was to sit there and dwell on the fact that just a week ago she was sleeping in the same bed as her partner. Alternate reality or not, this was still the most awkward Barbara Walker had never felt in her life. "I forgot how much I hate stake outs. You're so fucking bored you actually wish something will happen. Then you feel like an asshole for wishing it when it does. Fuck."
