A chance encounter. Or "Whoops, I fell for that hot mechanic who fixed my car." Who: Evelynn Dossick and Clementine Bennett What: Eve's car broke down and someone needs to fix it Where: Car dealership in Chula Vista, California When: Friday night Other: No idea. Flirting. Embarrassment. Awkward. The standard trifecta.
Eve had a hard time leaving Zac's foster family's house, but it needed to be done. She couldn't spend the night there, and while she wanted nothing more than to take him home with her, she knew that she legally couldn't do that. Maybe when he finally turned eighteen, he might want to come and stay with her. Her aunt and uncle wouldn't mind, especially since she wasn't living in their home at the moment. There was enough room where she was now...
These were the thoughts that were running in her head as she drove home, the highway clear save for a car here and there. She had the window down, the cool night air keeping her awake. Not that she was all that sleepy, but it had been a long and stressful day, not to mention a long and stressful week.
So when she heard the pop and the hiss, and the smoke begin to rise from the hood of her car, she didn't know if she wanted to scream in terror or curse angrily at the car. Instead she settled for both as she came to a halt, unbuckling her seat belt and opening the door, going to stand near the hood and opening it up. She wasn't sure why she even bothered to look when she had no idea, but she slammed the hood back down and moved to the side, yelling out angrily as she kicked the wheel.
"DAMNIT!" She yelled. Of course her car would break down on the way home, like it was telling her that leaving him was the worst possible idea out there. Which it was. But now she had to deal with this, and she took her phone out of her pocket and let the phone ring for AAA. It took them an hour and a half to get there, and by that time she had gone through most of the book she kept in the car.
Once that two truck came, she grabbed her purse and sat in the front with the driver, trying to keep up with his chatter as best she could while her mind was on other things. Finally they made it to the dealership, and she got out of the truck, watching as he towed it away to wherever cars go to get fixed. With a sigh, she looked around for someone to talk to.
