Okay, she had him there, he definitely should have been watching out for that... but that was what having a partner was supposed to be about, right? Except, he guessed, when that partner was your ex-girlfriend and it was probably better for everyone involved if he didn't tempt her to leave him wide open.
"Look, I'm just trying to give the guys a friendly warning. I could have said way worse," he pointed out, aiming a kick at another of the goons rushing them. "Like... she always has to be right."
Which wouldn't have made much sense in the context of what he'd been talking to them about, but the point stood that it was probably going to piss her off even more than what he'd already said. And he'd just opened his mouth and let that little line out anyway, which he was probably going to end up regretting but at the moment? That felt kind of good, too, as good as the crunching sound it made when his kick connected with a knee.
