Likewise, Kyle was perfectly aware of his somewhat closer proximity to her given his current position. He had no good explanation for it other than the fact that it was comfortable for him, and a much more confusing one that had something to do with the disadvantages of her height in relation to his. Not something that should have crossed his mind as any sort of concern for her own comfort, but Kyle couldn't help noticing that she frequently had to strain her neck just to look up at him fully.
He was so preoccupied with puzzling over this shift in his priorities that suddenly finding himself looking into her eyes caught Kyle completely off guard as well.
It wasn't just that they were suddenly at something that could be considered eye-level, at least more so than usual. Kyle wasn't usually thrown by anything as minimal as accidental eye contact, even in the fiercest of combat situations he'd never been known to be so easily shaken. There was something about the parting of her mouth and commanding green of her eyes up close that drew his attention and held him in place against his will, after a few seconds making him feel horribly aware of himself.
Even when she wasn't hiding the majority of her thoughts from him as he so often did to her, Kyle didn't always understand the small flashes of feelings that he got from Freya. Now was no different, and the only thing he recognized for sure was the stirring of confusion in her that matched his own. Not enough to give him any concrete answers, but even so, he wouldn't have precisely known what answers he was looking for anyway.
Just not, you know. This close. She was talking about their closeness in age, but a part of Kyle suspected that wasn't the only thing she was referring to in her response. That alone was enough to seemingly make him remember himself and take a self-conscious step back, giving her space and him a moment to collect his thoughts and redirect them.
At this point he thought it was a safe assumption to make that they were the same age, just as they shared the same birthday, though he didn't voice this thought out loud. There was likely such thing as too many surprises in one day, if this would even merit a surprise for her considering all that they'd already unearthed about their respective histories. Born on the same day, dead families, a unique connection to the Force and each other that no one else could possibly understand.
If Kyle didn't know any better, he'd say the universe had planned this from the start. Like they'd been built just for this, before things like reincarnation and the Force ever became part of their daily lives. He found he didn't hate the idea as much as he might have before.
Kyle blinked once before the spell was broken with the announcement of their departure and the turn of her heel. He found himself watching after Freya almost wistfully before immediately catching up to her with a few strides of his twice longer legs, falling into step with her easily as his curiosity peaked further. Despite that, he chose not to push with whatever had made her turn around and retreat so quickly. He'd gotten to know Freya very well in recent months, and knew that would only make her dig her heels in harder. There was no need for that, not when it wouldn't change the fact that she'd gotten used to lowering her guard with him.
In the end that's what gave him the confidence to pursue her. "Tell me about them," he urged, indicating with an incline of his head to the books in her possession and remembering how she had slipped one into her bag. "What's so secret about the first that you had to hide it? Or is this just how people behave in bookstores." Obviously, he wouldn't know.
