Something happened in him that he couldn't explain once she'd confirmed it. It was unnecessary, the offer and acceptance of friendship wasn't some life changing event for Kyle, he had more important things to be concerned about than whether or not Freya truly wanted to be his friend. And yet, in that moment, he felt a heat in the center of his chest that he couldn't make sense of.
Kyle's eyes followed the path her gaze took as she glanced tiredly over her shoulder, to his bed, though some part of him knew that logically that was impossible. It was at once strange, but also strangely not unwelcome, to have her in here. Maybe it made it easier for him because for all intent and purpose, she still wasn't. Not really. Only in the most abstract of sense.
He didn't have people in here. This was the only space in the entire compound that Kyle could call his own, and though he didn't use it for anything other than sleeping or meditation, it was his. It was... safe. Maybe it was in this moment that Kyle understood, for the first time, that Freya felt safe to him. He wondered when he'd stopped thinking of her as only a threat, but he couldn't name a time or place.
Only a feeling.
Watching her work through it, Kyle found himself taking notice of the smallest tells in her facial expressions, momentarily more focused on that then her words. No matter how small her eyes grew the more tired she became, she fought to keep them open even the tiniest fraction. He could still see brilliant flecks of green. The way she pressed her lips together before she said something difficult, he'd noticed her do that often. Kyle realized with a shock that he'd already noticed many things about Freya that he hadn't thought to mark before.
Her suggestion was intriguing, if momentarily confusing, and Kyle searched her face for a prolonged pause before he spoke. Looking for answers he knew wouldn't be written there, but he still looked. Funny, it didn't even occur to him in that moment to try and find the answers elsewhere. He'd stopped trying to invade her mind without permission long enough ago that he couldn't immediately recall when either.
Did she not want him to leave?
Of course he didn't know for sure anymore then she did what would happen, how long they would be able to maintain their connection without forcibly willing it. He knew that he could close himself off to it (and to her) at any point, just as she could close herself off to him, but to make it last? It was something Rey and Kylo had never been in a position to attempt themselves. If anything, that only made Kyle more determined to try. Admitting that was easier than admitting what was really bothering him. He didn't want to be left alone.
A part of him still focused on the absence of her touch, it didn't surprise him as much of the possibility that she wanted to keep their connection in tact. What surprised Kyle was understanding a moment later that he wanted to. "As long as we want."
He said it with more confidence then fit his knowledge of the situation at hand, but Kyle was sure he was right. Together, there was nothing they couldn't do. "That is if you want me to stay."
