Who: Gabe Martinez, Matt Silva and Freya Shepherd What: Freya meets Gabe and they gang up on Matt because youths Where: Camelot Castle (the grounds) When: Backdated to Monday, February 17th, 2020 (later that day, after this thread) Warnings: Nothing probably
Gabe always enjoyed coming back to Camelot for a day or two, especially after a long mission. It always felt a little like a vacation, and not just because it was literally a castle on a lake. Pretty much anywhere felt like a vacation compared to the below frigid temperatures of Northwestern Canada, except they didn't have to pay to be at this particular destination spot. Always a plus.
Then again, he didn't have to worry about an angry ex-girlfriend waiting to verbally behead him when he got back.
It wasn't that he wasn't sympathetic to Matt's plight. Of course he was. Matt was his best friend, so obviously Gabe was predisposed to be on his side no matter what. That didn't mean he couldn't find it a little funny once he caught wind of the explosive argument that had rocked the halls of Camelot not even a few hours after they'd first gotten to the place. Was that a record? Probably.
He was just glad he'd been elsewhere for the big show.
While Matt had been having a very public screaming match with Lydia Evans, Gabe had been enjoying himself out on the castle grounds, elbow deep in engine grease. There was probably nothing that looked more out of place against a medieval backdrop like Camelot than a black, 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, but he barely noticed. It was his prized possession (since he wasn't allowed Poe's X-Wing, a fact that he definitely wasn't at all bitter about), so precious in fact that he kept it here at Camelot instead of Albuquerque. Considering how often he wasn't actually at home, at least he knew it'd be safe here, in the most secure fortress he or Poe had ever experienced firsthand.
After being away for a long time, some people came back to loved ones. But Gabe? He came back to a car.
Normally he didn't have this kind of free time after a debriefing, but according to Matt, they hadn't been given a new assignment yet. He knew his friend was eager to get out of here, but personally, Gabe was ecstatic. After being cooped up in intolerable, freezing conditions for the last three months, a breath of fresh, warmer air and an overdue joy ride seemed like a great idea. Maybe it'd even wipe the grumpy look off Matt's face for awhile, anything was possible out on the open road.
He probably wasn't helping said grumpy look on his friend's face with the way he was hiding behind the open hood of his car, shoulders shaking as he tried desperately to swallow the laughs that kept climbing back up his throat in response to Matt's retelling of the most recent events in the Matt and Lydia saga. Gabe had already heard it from three other people before he'd even seen Matt after the incident, that was how fast word traveled around the castle. He'd kind of forgotten just how much of a gossip hub this place could be. If it wasn't so hilarious, he'd probably feel bad for him.
"That's rough, man. That's really rough." Even with his face half-buried in the hood of the car, it was probably obvious he was trying and failing not to laugh, but Matt couldn't hold that against him, could he? "... Hey, on the bright side, at least you got it over with? Maybe? I'll shut up now."
