There were too many reasons to list that Kelsey wouldn't trade her life for Sara's; the biggest and most important of them was Peyton. Kelsey didn't have to imagine what it would be like to lose her sister. She knew that pain as well as she could without experiencing it firsthand, felt how much Sara ached whenever she thought about Laurel... and she thought about Laurel a lot. Every time something reminded them that even though the Lance sharing space with Peyton might share a first name with Sara's sister, she wasn't her, it was a knife plunged straight into Sara's heart. It might have sounded like an uncomfortable way to exist, sure, but Sara knew more about living with pain than living without it.
That was another reason that Kelsey wasn't jealous of Sara. Maybe she was a complete badass, but she'd earned it the hard way.
If there was one thing that Kelsey did get a little jealous of sometimes, it was the amount of time travel hijinks she was missing out on. Yeah, yeah, it was great that nobody was messing up the timeline and the future was safe, and no one needed to go root out anachronisms to fix it. She was happy about that. Honestly, she was. But a safe timeline meant that Kelsey had missed out on so many costumes that it was almost tragic.
Not anymore though. The timeline was still fine, but Kelsey had all the excuse she needed to play dress up anyway. Emma needed a distraction, after all, and what better distraction than vanishing into a decade where her ex-girlfriend hadn't even been born yet? And, unexpected bonus, it had made Kelsey feel even cooler when Gideon called her 'Captain Lance' in front of Emma than it had whenever she'd taken the timeship for a cruise by herself. The AI had been just as happy to fabricate some disguises for them as she would have been if they'd been going on a legitimate mission; Kelsey wasn't sure if AIs could get bored, but if one ever could she had a feeling it would have been Gideon with no Legends living semi-permanently on board.
The line to get into the Palladium was just as long as Kelsey had expected. She'd settled on an outfit that would have done Cyndi Lauper proud, fishnets and boots and layers of skirt, a strapless top and frankly excessive amounts of beaded necklaces and bangles that clattered when she moved, all of them in colors that probably shouldn't have gone together except that it was the 80s and that meant the gaudier the better. Her makeup was just as bright and over the top as her clothes, her hair a riot of teased curls parted deeply to the side.
No mission, no emergencies, meant that Kelsey could really enjoy the thrill of we're actually here that sparked in her chest the same as it always had in Sara's, even under the most dire of circumstances. Sure, it would have been great to have Mick, Ray, Amaya, even John (even if he was a spoilsport who refused to dress up and play along). As far as new recruits for the Legends went, though? Emma and Steph were the best ones Kelsey could ever imagine.
"Ready?" They were getting near the front of the line, and Kelsey flashed Emma a grin over her shoulder. They shouldn't have any problems making any kind of cut to get in. They were young, they were hot, and they were going to have the best night of their lives so far... and if the club itself didn't provide that, Kelsey was more than willing to start a fight to make up for it. It shouldn't mess with the timeline too much.
