There were times that Bishop still found it hard to believe that he and Iris had 'seconds' of things now... not the little things like second dates, second kisses, but the big ones. Specifically? It blew his mind that he and Iris were together for a second New Year's Eve. It had been a long time since Bishop had dated someone long enough that they were spending one set of holidays together, much less two. Not until Iris.
He still wasn't sure how he'd gotten lucky enough that she'd wanted to stick around but Bishop wasn't going to waste the time he could be enjoying with her poking and prodding at the ins and outs of their relationship. Not that he planned to take it for granted either. Bishop Shaw was a lucky man and he planned on appreciating that as thoroughly as he could for as long as Iris let him. The rest of the world might have been a mess but this? This was something good. That deserved to be celebrated just as much as all the potential that came with a whole new year.
Maybe they could have celebrated it just as well at home but this year they'd gone out to celebrate. Going to the Capitol Club might have been cheating when it came to taking Iris out somewhere but Bishop happened to think it was plenty special and not just because one of his best friends owned it. Mostly that, sure, but as far as homes away from home to do their celebrating, Bishop didn't think there was much to complain about. They'd get a bottle of champagne closer to midnight, but Bishop was more than happy with what was on tap at the bar until then. "I've gotta admit," he told Iris, "if we're going out for the night I'm glad we came somewhere a little warmer than home." 'A little' being an almost thirty degree understatement for Bishop, at least.
Bishop's knee nudged against Iris's under the table and he shot her a smile. "Got any resolutions for this year?" It wasn't really the kind of thing they talked about usually. Bishop figured they were both probably too busy to think about things like resolutions. He knew he was too busy to think about any he'd made the year before most days. Honestly? He couldn't even remember off the top of his head if he'd made any at all, much less whether he'd followed through with them afterward.
There was always that chance that this year would be different though. That was the magic of a new year. That was the magic of any kind of new start. You never knew when something was going to light the spark that changed your life forever, after all. That one he knew from experience, his own as well as Cinna's. Maybe this was going to be a better year than the one before it. Starting it off with the most amazing woman he'd ever known was a damn good beginning anyway.
