Who: Phoenix Schwartz
What: After a night of debauchery, Phoenix learns he should have been more careful.
When: Saturday morning September 16th, shortly before this
Where: Various locations in New York, but ending at his precinct.
Warnings: Very brief smut references
The pre-dawn light filtered gently into the room, a hazy sort of reminder that the day was going to begin soon. It was contrasted loudly by an alarm ringing somewhere near his ear. At least they'd remembered to set one at all. Groggily, Phoenix rolled over and smashed blindly at the screen of his phone in an attempt to stop the noise. He was sure he'd chosen this tone as a more melodious and pleasant way to wake up but at 4:45 in the morning it was simply irritating. Eventually, he managed to swipe it and leave blissful silence in its wake. He dropped the device back onto the floor. That was slightly weird, that his phone was on the floor., he normally had a small table. He rolled back annoyed that it was already time to wake up, even though he had always known it was on the cards and stared at the unfamiliar exposed brickwork of the walls. It was only then that the smell of pancakes became apparent and he realized he was distinctly alone in bed.
He wasn't used to whoever he fell into bed with being awake by the time he left. Normally he left some sort of hastily scribbled note, or a selfie on their phone if they didn't happen to lock it, but he'd be gone before anyone else stirred. That was mainly because he had a terrible habit of going out the night before an early shift and he always had to go before any decent human being would even consider waking up. A good excuse to show he wasn't looking for anything permanent. He'd never really considered the alternative.
If pancakes were on offer though…
Phoenix threw back the cover and sat up. Here and there his body made complaints. His back stung as fabric brushed against it courtesy of some deep scratches that he didn't recall having inflicted upon him. The half-moon circles dug into his thighs were easier to recall. It would take a while to forget the look on Jason’s face as his lips wrapped around his swollen cock. Jason? Was it Jason? That didn't seem right now that he thought about it. Did it matter? ...If the guy was doing something as domestic as making breakfast for him, then maybe. He stretched his arms over his head as he dragged himself upright to gather his clothes, so carelessly discarded the night before. Merlin, he hoped there was coffee too.
Perhaps it had been a stroke of luck to have caught Rowan on the way out last night. He’d learned that the werewolf was planning to stay home, and so it hadn’t been a good idea to bring anyone back to the apartment. If he had, he certainly wouldn’t be making pancakes right now. He’d take whatever good fortune came his way. And if the pancakes were good enough, he’d even consider a repeat performance. The sex, after all, had been phenomenal. He grinned, haphazardly as he emerged from the bedroom, slinking over to a seat at the counter. Jason (or Jake, or Jack...something with a J) was still as easy on the eyes as he remembered through the haze of alcohol. Better, all things considered. He flipped pancakes out onto a plate.
“Chocolate chip. I can do plain if you want?” he said breezily. Clearly, the guy was a morning person. Was that something he wanted to deal with long-term? Was he really considering the possibility of an actual relationship? It was far too early in the morning for this.
“Chocolate chip is fine.” Phoenix waved his hand non-committally, trying to seem like he was at ease with being offered any sort of breakfast. “Thanks, Ja--ay.” He spread the sound of the letter out as he realized he still couldn’t remember the name. He wasn’t exactly worried about that, but it could lead to hurt feelings and he’d rather not get into that whole thing when he’d just been given food.
“Nicknames, so soon? Or is this just because you don’t remember the whole thing?” Jonas asked. Phoenix barely had time to look fake hurt over it before the guy was laughing. “Not that I can remember yours. It began with an ‘F’?” Okay, so he could get to like this one. He was easy to get along with. He smirked, stuffing the fluffy food into his mouth and chewing for about half a second, barely long enough to ensure he wouldn’t choke.
“Phoenix. With a P-H. So was I at least right with the J?”
“Yup. James.”
Phoenix let out a bark of laughter. Of course it was a James. He always got along famously with them after all. He wrenched his phone from his pocket, talking around the food he was hastily ramming into his face. “I really have to go or my Captain is going to kill me. Did I get your number?” He was already scrolling through his contacts, trying to figure out if he had anything new in there. Nothing under J. “Or were you planning to feed me then kick me out and hope you never heard from me again?”
James laughed too, a rich tenor to his voice. “I think you put me under ‘Fuckboy’ before I finished seducing you.”
Phoenix at least had the decency to look slightly ashamed of himself, but James clearly wasn’t bothered by it. He found the entry and edited the name. It now read ‘Pancakes Potter’. James was clearly more interested in this new nickname, but Phoenix shrugged it off. “That’s a story for next time. And let’s try to make next time a day where we’re able to get up at human times the morning after.” James laughed at this again, it was a pleasant sound, not in the least bit annoying. He could stand to have this laugh inflicted on him again and again. But not right now. Time was pressing ever onwards, and if he was late not only was he going to get chewed out by his boss again, but Rowan would have that ever disapproving look about him.
He dropped his fork on the plate of unfinished pancakes and jumped up. His chair scraped loudly across the floor but he paid it no mind. In a flash, he had moved around the counter pulling James in for a kiss, taking the opportunity to fondle his ass, then as they drew apart, his cock. He laughed and swirled around heading for the door.
“I’ll text you, Fuckboy.” Then he was out and running, looking for the most convenient place to apparate without anyone seeing him so that he could get changed and maybe even get to work on time. The day had started out fantastically.
It could only get worse.
