WHO: Ryan and Morgan
WHEN: Late Friday night
WHERE: Manticore.
WHAT: Ryan tried to sneak to Manticore to check on it. Morgan's too slick for him.
WARNINGS: Eh. It's probably PG-13
There were very few times that Ryan wished to be wrong. Normally he was an arrogant son of a bitch, and he was proud to push buttons and be a pain in the ass. Having transgenic abilities definitely didn't work to deflate his ego at all, which was probably why he was where he was in the first place, assuming that he was inconspicuous and great at keeping secrets. Really, he should have assumed from the start that Morgan would see through his ruse immediately. He could hide things from normal humans, but a fellow transgenic? And the reincarnate of Max Guevera at that.
He had always had the fear in the back of his mind that Manticore was operational. Part of it was a lingering worry of Alec's, that irrational nightmare of ending up back there and in psy-ops, but most of it was his own fears. Ryan hadn't had the best life, foster care was a bitch and all that, but he still preferred the occasional beating to government imprisonment. And when you got the super soldier in your head with all the baggage at the tender age of sixteen, fears developed and grew until they had minds of their own. He hadn't wanted to check on his worries out of concern that he'd be right; it almost felt better not knowing than going and having confirmation. If he didn't check, he could go on pretending it was an urban legend that didn't exist.
Maybe it was the political climate that pushed him to it, or maybe he was just finally deciding to man up so he could protect his family--blood and extended. Whatever the case was, he'd decided to go on his own. Why worry everybody else when there was a chance he was just being paranoid? He and Alec both felt they were more than capable of doing a stealth mission solo. Sure, it wasn't exactly the recon stuff Alec did when he was in Manticore--that was more about blending in out in the real world--but how hard could it be to hide in a bush for a little bit and watch a (hopefully) abandoned facility?
He'd taken his bike instead of the MTN. He needed the drive to clear his head and make a plan, especially since his current one had consisted almost entirely of "show up, watch, then leave." It wasn't an air tight plan. It wasn't even a shitty almost-plan. It was more like the Titanic after the iceberg, and before he knew it the drive was done, he was hiding his bike in bushes along the perimeter of the facility, and he still hadn't come up with a decent plan. Well, other than the fact that he'd decided that initially watching was best done hidden behind a tree with a particularly wide base.
X7s patrolling by the fence.
Alec's voice made him jump, but Ryan quickly composed himself to scan the area for movement. Sure enough, the creepy little bastards with bat DNA in their cocktail were securing the immediate area. It wasn't a comforting sight, and he immediately frowned. If there was security, that meant something was being done inside. Nothing good ever came from the high security buildings in front of him. Nothing good ever came from the government doing secret experiments.
Fuck. He so hadn't wanted to be right.
