Who: Jen Hill & Rory Flynn What: She's getting busy recruiting Where: The top of the Empire State Building, and then... probably all over the city When: Friday, December 9th, 2016 Warnings: Nothing major. Adorable superheroes w/ too much energy & speed.
Things had been a little crazy lately, so even after Jen had talked to her team about going out recruiting, it had still taken her a little while to get down to it. After the virus, things had been understandably hectic. They'd lost one of their own, which wasn't exactly a new thing for the JL, but it never stopped being incredibly painful. Shae had been with them for a long time. She was a real staple of the group, and a good friend of Mark's, so while everyone had taken the loss hard, Jen was still worried about how Mark was taking it the most. Like most idiotically selfless heroes, Mark struck Jen as the type who shouldered most of the emotional pain by himself, without asking for help from anyone in bearing it. Jen couldn't exactly talk since she was guilty of the exact same thing, but that's why she was worried about him. The whole team had been through enough already, which Jen thought maybe made it easier for some to cope, but that didn't mean that people weren't still silently hurting.
She'd known that there were some losses on a few of the other resident vigilante groups that the JL sometimes worked with, so Jen had expressed her condolences to them, and attended all their memorials. There had been a lot of funerals in the last month or so, between everyone that had died in the various groups of superheroes that Jen knew and people from the Agency. It was still depressing, walking through the Agency halls and noticing everyone that she didn't see walking through them anymore. It felt like a ghost town, even though there were still plenty of people left in the building. No matter how much experience Jen had with death and loss, it was never something that she was fully able to get used to. But she couldn't stay in her fortress of solitude forever. She knew that, so eventually, it was finally time for her to get back to work. And she was looking to recruit.
Feeling helpless was not something that Jen did well with, after all. Being someone as powerful as she was, it was one of the most frustrating parts of her job. Her, and Clark's. Even Superman wasn't powerful enough to stop death, but no matter what, people like him and Jen would always keep fighting. That's what she was trying to encourage her team to do, and everyone around her. To always keep fighting. She was determined to set the example, if no one else would, and the fact of the matter was, the JL had been needing to recruit for awhile. They were a good team, everyone in the JL was capable and powerful in their own rights, but they were still small potatoes compared to the real Justice League. They needed some more heavy hitters, and Jen was pretty sure she'd located one. All she wanted to do right now was have a real conversation with him (or her, it could totally be a her) and see if they were interested.
Currently Jen was perched on the very tip top of the Empire State building, out of sight from any tourists on the top most floor below her who were just there to do some sight seeing. She liked coming up here, it was one of her favorite spots in the city with one of the most beautiful views. It was also a great place to hone in on her super enhanced hearing. There was a certain speedster that she'd noticed running around the city in the recent past, and today, she was looking to actually have a conversation with them, after casually observing them and few others over the past several weeks. If this speedster was one of Clark's friends, like she was already assuming, then Jen couldn't think of anyone better to have on their team right now than someone who embodied hope. Closing her eyes and turning her ears to the wind, Jen quieted her mind and listened, listening intently for the person she was looking for.
