Who: Riley Kingston and Rhett Jackson
What: Robin Riley teaches Marian Rhett how to shoot. Which he totally doesn't know how to already.
Where: Sherwood Forest.
When: Midday.
Warnings: Probably none besides general cuteness.
When Riley had gone off to fight a war that she believed in, Rhett had almost followed her. Yes, he was a man. And yes, he did know how to fight as much as the next guy. But just because he knew how didn't mean that he wanted to. There was a big difference there, because sending a soldier out to fight when they didn't want to, was basically sending them out to die before everyone else did. But instead, he had stayed behind, and he had promised her that he would always wait for her. Reading that note that she left behind was difficult, knowing what she wanted, and needed to do. But it didn't change what had been said. If there was one thing Rhett was good at, it was keeping his word.
It hadn't been easy. Rhett had lost the man who had been a father figure a few years earlier, before everything went downhill, and since the man hadn't had any sons of his own, he'd gifted it to Rhett, having him take over the business they had. It wasn't anything special, just enough to keep Rhett in good standing in the town of Locksley. He wasn't near the top, not near the Kingston level, but it wasn't a tale of the poor meeting the rich. They'd been play friends since they were young, and no one had been surprised when their friendship turned into something else.
And boy, did Rhett have it bad for her. When Riley left, it allowed Rhett and her father to grow close, seeing as how he would be in his life for a good, long time, if Rhett had anything to say about it. When her father died, it was like he had to relive the death of his father figure. And life had just gone downhill from there. Dealing with the Sheriff every day, the taxes, the arrests, made life very hard in their town. Rhett did the best he could to keep his head afloat, but like everyone else, things were just not going well.
Then Riley came home. And life was good again, just for a little bit. He knew she was going to come home, but having her there, in the flesh, made everything all right again. But then everything happened with the boy, and the Sheriff and his men, and when Riley had to go, Rhett knew what he was going to do. He wasn't going to almost lose her a second time, so he had followed her, and hadn't looked back once.
But now it was nice to just spend time with her. Riley had said she was going to teach him how to shoot, so that the two of them could go hunting together. Of course, Rhett wasn't going to tell her that he already knew how to shoot, but he was prepared to do whatever he could, just to spend more time with her. He could fake it. Hopefully, he could fake it. Picking up the extra bow, he held it loosely in his hands as he looked at Riley.
"Okay, teacher, time to show me your stuff."
