When: Late afternoon
Warnings: TBD, nothing major
News traveled far and fast in the kingdom of Haven, enough that it didn't take very long for news of the sleeping prince to reach Colin's ears in the first few months after it had happened. The story itself intrigued him for several reasons, not the least of which being that the person at the center of the story was a prince under a sleeping spell, the origin of which having come from a poisoned apple. Not exactly the sort of thing you heard about, even in a place like Haven, and a lot of strange things happened in this land. As a prince who constantly craved adventure, Colin had seen much of the strange things that happened in Haven first hand. Rogue villains who had powers over ice and nature itself, some could even communicate with certain animals, but this was the first Colin had ever heard about a poisoned apple that rendered its victims, especially a prince, unconscious.
According to the rumors, the sleeping prince was from a neighboring country where the widowed queen was actually an evil witch, and had attempted to kill her step-son so she could keep her crown. He slept now as though dead, but he wasn't, instead simply frozen in time and asleep. If that weren't enough to awaken Prince Colin's sense of justice, whispers of this sleeping prince being 'the fairest in any land' intrigued him enough that he couldn't have kept himself away even if he'd wanted to. It wasn't like this in every land, but under Colin's father's rule, he'd decreed long ago that it was just as acceptable for a prince to take another man's hand in marriage as it was for a man to take a woman's. Very progressive, as far as kings went, so when Colin told his father as a young man that he had no desire to marry a woman, all he'd received from the king was a hug and his royal blessing. Fathering heirs wasn't a problem when there were willing and available women at court who would be given status and riches to provide a king with one, if needed.
It just so happened that Colin was currently looking for a man to marry, as his father was getting on in years and it wouldn't be long before it was time for Colin to take his place as the king of Haven. Of course, he could always accept the crown without a husband already at his side, but that life seemed far lonelier than Colin really liked. He saw this as an opportunity to rescue a wronged man from the jaws of eternal sleep (since as Colin understood it, no one so far had been able to wake him, and Colin did love a challenge) and also have a chance to meet the fairest prince in any land. Colin braved the Forbidden Forest, found the evil witch queen and defeated her easily, backing her to the edge of a cliff and letting her fall to her death. Then he followed the forest trail until he came upon the clearing where the sleeping prince was rumored to be resting, finding him on a bed of leaves and various flowers, completely cased in glass to protect him from the changing seasons while he slept.
Colin was at once struck by the man's beauty, which was even fairer than how he'd heard it told. Skin so pale that his lips looked as pink as a rose in comparison, complimented by raven black hair that framed his face in soft waves. Colin swallowed, dismounting his horse and leaving it to graze on some nearby grass as he approached, removing the glass case covering him to get closer. They had said that the man could only be woken from the poison seeping through his veins by a kiss from his true love, and Colin didn't know if that would be him, but now that he'd seen the man for himself Colin had never wished to be anyone's true love more. He had to try. He would regret it for the rest of his life if he didn't, and since no one had succeeded before... Maybe it could be him. Lowering himself to take a knee beside the bed of leaves and flowers, Colin looked on the angelic, peaceful face of the man sleeping once more before he slowly lowered his face over his, their lips finally meeting in a gentle, first kiss.
He thought that he was going mad, because after a moment it actually felt like the prince's lips were growing warm in the kiss that lingered only slightly, and perhaps it was just that they were being warmed by his own, but after a moment Colin pulled back and waited.
